  • 1.  Endpoint Protection Manager - Reinstall with managed clients

    Posted May 30, 2011 05:37 PM

    Hello,

Recently a customer of ours had a server that bit the dust which ran the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.  After the server had been rebuilt and the Manager reinstalled I am trying to add the clients that have the managed client installed on them to update from the new management console.  I've tried using the "find unmanaged computers" which picks up all the computers and says their deployments status is "No".  But when I try to install the clients it doesn't work?  I've tried manually uninstalling the enpoint client manually before installing using the management console which works but there are 80 pcs in this company and I am trying to avoid having to manually uninstall the client on each one.

Surely there is an easier way to do this?

    Help is appreciated.

    Dylan

Use sylink replacer and connect back all the clients without going to each and every computer and without even doing any install/re-install

    Hello,

I hope you may have kept the same IP address and the host name to the server same.

Follow these Steps to Get all your clients back:

Getting the Default Domain Id of Older SEPM from Sylink.xml file.

    1) Visit a Machine with SEP client Installed and which was Reporting to the SEPM server before the SEPM server went down.

    2) Go to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection

    3) Open the Sylink.xml file, you may see something (as shown in the Picture)

This ID is in the sylink.xml file on the client computers in each domain.

The string in the sylink.xml file looks like: DomainId="B44AC676C08A165009ED819B746F1".

    4) Take a Note of the DomainId.

    Restoring the DomainId

    1. Log on to the console.

    2. In the console, click Admin.

    3. In the System Administrator pane, click Domains.

    4. Under Tasks, click Add Domain.

    5. Click Advanced.

    6. Open the text file, select and copy the domain ID, and then paste the domain ID into the Domain ID box.

    7. Click OK.

    8. (Optional) Repeat this procedure for each domain to recover.

    9. Under Tasks, click Administer Domain.

    10. Click Yes on the Administer Domain dialog box.

    11. Click OK.

    12. Restart all of the client computers.

All the Clients would be seen in Either "My Company" Group OR "Default Group".

Ofcourse, you may have to Create New Groups and Manually move them to the Respective Groups from the "My Company" Group OR "Default Group".

However, this would be more easier Method.

If these steps does not work, then ofcourse, SylinkReplacer would help you get all the clients back.
