This issue has been solved. See solution.

File this under strange computer behavior.

When I run the setup.exe package executable for Endpoint Protection, it runs a completely different and unrelated executable.  For example, When I run setup.exe, the result I get is the exact same as if I had run otherfile.exe!

Anyone got any ideas?  I've tried re-exporting the file, but it still does the same thing.  I've also tried installing it from the deployment tool, and it says that it's completed, but the client machine gives me an error about not having rights to do it.  I'm logged in as the administrator for the domain, so that certainly isn't so.

Hi

Hello Shane,

could you please tell us the executable file name,is it msiexec.exe process what you see in taskmanager?
on the clients machine which complained about permissions , what is the operating system ? windows vista or windows 7?
go to start -run
type %temp%
click on Ok
look for SEP_INST.LOG file
do a search for return value 3
paste 15 lines above and below of this return value.

check this document for assigning necessary permissions for the client install.

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : ) Rafeeq

There is no SEP_INST.LOG file

There is no SEP_INST.LOG file created.  I'm not sure that it even gets that far.

Try deploying MSI package

Instead of a setup.exe you can also try creating and deploying the MSI package. Uncheck the option "Create a single.exe fr this package and it would create an MSI package

Create a single.exe file.JPG

Thanks & Regards Sandip C Sali

Bingo!

That seems to have worked.  Awesome!

The install started properly and completed and SEP is functioning.

Thanks for your help!

Do  you remember what

Do  you remember what excutable run ?

As when you run the setup.exe along with  that you will see 3 instance of msiexec.exe running in the taskmanger. If you are refering to this it is normal.

If something else is running we need to look in to that.

When I run the install

When I run the install package executable, it runs another executable that is completely unrelated.  The other file name is focusxp.exe.  Not even close to the right thing...
