This issue has been solved. See solution.

I recently installed SBE on  aserver.  First I installed the Symantec Installation manager along with MS SQL Server 2008 R2 which was included with the SBE product.  I am now wondering if the SQL sever was a necessary step.  If not, can I just uninstall it and the setup I have done will still be OK.  SBE is the only product we have and will get for Symantec.

You need to choose either the embedded DB or an external SQL DB. If you want the embedded, you will need to re-install.

So...I do need the SQL?  There was no prompt when I installed it for embedded.  We have a small installation of 25 users.  Which one will be best?

Embedded DB is plenty fine for an environment that size but if you already have the SQL piece in place, you can leave as is.
