    Possibly a silly question.
We are using Endpoint Protection 11 at our main site.
We have a central server, all of the clients talk to it for updates etc and the system works extremely well.

We have a small office in China - around 8 users.
The link between the UK and China isn't great, so we don't particularly want them having to rely on it to get to our central Endpoint server.

As with NAV Corporate Edition before - can Endpoint Protection simply be installed in a "stand alone" way on 8 workstations (so long as we purchase the licenses of course).
So the site would have no need for the central server and all of the clients will simply get their updates directly from Symantec's server.
    Would this work?

Correct.  When you can export a standalone client from your management system.  That way they will at least have the necessary policies.

Check my article https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/upgrading-sep-clients-using-sepm-part-2 near the bottom it refers to exporting packages for installation.  The screenshot will show you what you are looking for.

If you install from the SEP folder of your download then you can install unmanaged clients, which update from Symantec servers instead of a SEPM.

Alternatively you can export an unmanaged client via the SEPM .
(Be careful doing this because by default the policy will not allow the user to make changes to the firewall, and on an unmanaged client this leaves no way at all to configure the firewall after install.)

    you can ..

    Here is the steps.

    browse to cd1

    open SEP folder

run the install locally, this would isntall the client as unamaged(Stand alone)
