We had a test server for symantec endpoint v10. we installed the new version v11 of the server on a different server all together and renamed it something diffrent. even after installing the new package on a pre-exisitng machine with the old client they still point towards the old server and donot show up in the admin console on the new server. Is there a really easy fix and or setting on the client to change? Or is there a migration tool from the other server to new?

we did a redirect on our network for the old name and the clients are talking to the server but they are giving the message at the bottom of the console and saying trying to register with an invalid domain id.

You will need to run the Migration and deployment wizard.  This is generally found in the start menu under the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager folder.
It will allow to create your package(s) for deployment and install the new clients with the new SEP.  You can choose a deployment group and type of deployment for the machine.  Furthermore you will be able to choose what portions of the package to deploy.

The SEP uses a file called SYLINK.XML to establish and maintain connectivity with the client.  It is created with the package(s) and contains a key provided by the server for connecting to the server.

Create a new pacakge by "Remove all previous logs and policies, and reset the communication settings"

Title: 'How to restore/retain client-server communication using custom installation settings without having to use the sylink drop tool.'
