Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition

Dear All,

We have installed a Endpoint Small Business Server V12, and we are having bandwidth problems on a remote subnet. The problem is as follows.

We have a central Office (15 clients ) and a remote office (7 Clients) connected with a 1MB connection. The problem usually occurs every monday morning when all the clients in the remote office download approximately around 200MB of data each ( total 1,4GB of Data) overloading the connection line for at least 2 hours.

My question is, why are they downloading so much data from the server, and is there any way to prevent this from happening.

I have modified the Live update policy to allow the remote office clients to be able to download content from LIve update servers, but this did not help at all.

Any ideas ???

In SEP SBE can you adjust how many Content revisions you keep on the SEPM?

If all of your clients are downloading a FULL def on Monday after being off for just two days,  you probably need to keep more content revisions.

By keeping a few more, then those clietns will download minidefs (deltas) instead of full defs.

We average two defs per day, so to get two more days, increase your Content Revisions by four or five, at least.  This will take up some more space on the SEPM server.

Dear John, thanks for your reply. Is such a setting really available in SEP SBE ??? I have looked all over the software and I cannot locate any setting like this, and to be honest, your answer sounds more that just logical :) I just hope this settings are hidden somewhere and a solution if found soon ......

Another thing as well. If this is a option NOT available in SBE, will an upgrade to the SEP solve this problem for us  ?

There is no such possibility in Small Business version.

You can change it in SEP 11.x version. Since there are in average 3 definitions per day (antivirus and antispyware) it should be at least 10 revisions to keep on the server.

Unfortunately you cannot migrate from SEP 12.x to SEP 11.x - you will need to reinstall Small Business version first.

Thanks a lot w-d. I have already downloaded SEP 11 and testing it. Can you please let me know where the option to keep more definitions is in the software cause I am having hard time locating this setting.

Once you login to the SEP Manager go to Admin -> Servers click on Local Site and then under Tasks select Edit Site Properties. Then go to LiveUpdate tab. At the bottom under Disk Space Management for Downloads you configure the number of revisions.
