Endpoint won't install on fresh install of Windows 7
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 12 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I've recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 Business. I'm trying to install Endpoint 11.0 onto it, but it gets so far and then rolls back the install. It doesn't give any errors or messages saying why it rolled back either. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I've attached the install log file.

I searched your install log
I searched your install log for "value 3" and looked above that error.

Right click the LUSETUP.EXE in the SEP or SEPWIN64 directory and run as administrator, then do the same for the SETUP.EXE.

Hi,
Checked the logs/ Found the following error:
-- DECABI_LOGGING -- LiveUpdate registration failed. (HRESULT=-2147221164)
CustomAction LU_Register_Decomposer_ABI.611D9A69_39FC_4998_998E_1ECADF28A979 returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

I'm seeing a LOT of that in the forums here - looks like a problem that needs to be addressed?
Hard to believe there are that many clean Windows 7 installs with bad or corrupt script environments, etc.
There should be no hoops to jump through,, as Windows 7 is coming and mass installs of SEP will be required....

Yep...doesn't make a lot of sense that you need to manually install this product on the new OSes. Just recently had to do the same thing for my 2008 R2 servers. Manually install Live Update, then manually install SEP.

Windows 7 Install Rollback
I've tried several times to install Symantec 11.0.5 on Windows 7 Professional. Live update installs and then Symantec tries to install and then performs a rollback. I've tried running as Administrator as well. No deal. Searching for errors in the log now, but this is ridiculous. I've got several machines to start upgrading to Windows 7.
Count me among them...
Problems installing SEP MR5 on Windows 7
Clean install or upgrade. (32 and 64bit)
Liveupdate continues to be the troublemaker.

Have you runn gpedit after installing 7?.
I have run 11.0.4 latest
I have run 11.0.4 latest release on another Windows 7 machine several weeks ago and that one is fine. No matter what I do on the current one, Live Update installs, but then setup.exe will roll back every time. I can run gpedit. Is there a setting or something that needs changing? Trying to run 11.0.5 now. I'll open up another thread since this one is not a resolution to my problem.

Not that -
It's a bug, plain and simple - just no getting around that fact.
4 Different pc's just for me and lot's of other users with the same problem..... buggy buggy...
Install Live Update and it works.
Installing Live update 3.5 or 3.3 first and Installing SEP RU5, works for me.
eventhough, all symantec
eventhough, all symantec employes categorically say that win 7 is supported in the SEP, we- the administrators are aware that it is not just that simple.
Look at this:
We just bought 300 new dell optiplex760 pcs and 100 dell6400 laptops. All the pc and laptops were installed with fresh images mae by us with win 7 OS. We took 50 of them for tests on all of our applications. On some of the pc SEP works perfectlly, on others the Liveupdate doesent work, on some of them PTP doesnt work...
I took some of the PCs and ltops, edn formated them. install the OS and all the software components from scratch. Same story. Problems, problems,problems...
I have tried MR4, MR5, Liveupdate 3.3, 3.5...
Yeah, and on some of the pcs the policies does not work as that should. The security setings also are not working OK. When I upgrade the SEP client from MR4 to MR5 the sec setings are not acordingly maped. Namely users can disable the SEP :((
Can someone tell me what is the best combination that will work on win 7?
