Energy Efficient Ethernet and WinPE

I have Altiris 6.9 SP5 MR1 installed on a w2k8 r2 sp1 server and everything was working fine with some generic unmanaged gigabit switches. Then the client purchased some Dell PowerConnect 5548/24P switches and I can no longer image.

I looked at the switches and everything is pretty much turned off. Also noted Windows 7 desktops are having connectivity issues.

What happens is as the Dell Optiplex 790 starts to boot to PXE when we first start up, the link on the switch goes off but is still on on the pc. Then it gets an IP number after a short delay and starts to load WinPE and the link light goes on, but it hangs forever on "DCHP Client service retrying...." (or something similar). The link light on the switch is off again at this point.

Called Dell tech support and they said it had to do with the Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) & was a known issue. This is disabled on the switch and we manually disabled it on the WIndows 7 computers. Dell tech support said we should disable it on the WinPE PXE, but I am at a loss on how to do this. All W7 pcs work fine on the old cheap switches and so does imaging...

Has anyone else run into this and if so, is there a solution?

    Thank you
