Enhancement request: Delay the "out of date defs" warning dialog box

It would be REALLY nice if the warning dialog box to end users telling them their defs are out of date could be delayed for fifteen minutes or so from the service startup. Our custom warning text has them call the Help Desk so that we know when a desktop may be malfunctioning. But some computers don't get used for a couple of weeks so the first person to use it gets the warning dialog box immediately.

If we could delay the warning dialog box to give it time to catch up, it would be very helpful.

We did not have this issue in SAV 10 because we wake up all computers on Sunday for patching and for a weekly scheduled scan. That was enough time for the defs to stay current.

Unfortunately, SEP 11 in User Mode doesn't work quite the same way. If a computer that's in User Mode is powered up from Wake on LAN but no one logs in, it never updates its defs.

Fixing SEP 11 so a computer in User Mode will get its definitions from either its last location or the default location would also go a long way to ridding us of these nuisance calls. :-)

Thanks for listening,

Ray

You should post this in the

You should post this in the Ideas section of Symantec connect.

If you can log into the BCS site, you can submit product enhancement requests there as well.

Cheers,

The initial install isn't a problem

We package up the current defs when we install it. We have "float" employees that move from office to office as needed, so we have spare computers at each office.  If no one has logged into one of them in a few weeks, that's when the warning occurs despite the fact that we wake it up each Sunday. The warning is set at 21 days.
