Enterprise Vault - Backup Best Practices?

Other than the established documentation, does anyone have best practices for Enterprise Vault backups?
? - Schedule batch files to stop EV services, backup EV, schedule batch files to stop SQL, backup SQL, ETC???

What version? With EV 8 you don't need to stop the services.

Ideally you want a point in time where EV Vault Stores, Indexes, and SQL databases are all synced up and that is when you grab your backup.
