These are alot of changes and

These are alot of changes and when making this many changes you will require the ev part to be planned properly.  It is possible, but not simple and certainly would not recommend your planning to be simply what you get from a forum post in regards EV.

This requires detailed undertanding of your environment, review of current project plan and then planning in detail the move in regards EV.  I would strongly recommend you engage some professfional services.

Yes, I agree with Genie. You

Yes, I agree with Genie.
You will do many things in Parallel, and this requires extensive planning.
I really suggest that you do that in stages, by:

1. Upgrading EV
- Upgrade EV to 2007
- Upgrade EV to 8.0 SP1

2. Move EV to Windows 2008
- Setup new OS
- Do an EV desaster recovery to the new OS

3. Move Domains

4. Move Exchange

Make sure that on every step you plan enough time.

And really engage your EV Partner to help you, it's not a trivial task to do all this!

Cheers

Hi This depends on your

Hi

This depends on your requirements.
With EV7 SPx, Exchange 2007 is supported, but not OWA 2007.
With EV7/2007 Windows 2008 is not supported.

So, if you want to have OWA 2007 functionality, you need EV 2007
If you want to move EV to Windows 2008, you need EV 8.

Have a look here for further details:

Hello Michel, We are not

Hello Michel,

We are not using OWA here and also not going to upgrade the OS of the EV server.

1. domain ( xyz.com) going to change (abc.com)  and OS is going to upgrade from WIN 2003 to 2008.
2. Exchange server is going to upgarde from 2003 to 2007.
3. EV is 7.0( sp5).

My main doubt is if we are going to change the domain name, then how EV will contact to the mailboxes which are already archived and what all the changes to be made from the EV side.

 Also as we are going to change domain, our ev server is also in the same domain so how we have to proceed for domain change.

Does Domain OS 2008 has any thing to do with EV. and for exchange 2007 is there any confuguration changes on EV.

Thanks;

Hi You will not have to

Hi

You will not have to upgrade EV then.

I really recommend involving an EV Partner, can't give you more advice here, as I haven't done this myself yet. (Domain migration)
There wil be configuration changes in EV, I believe.

Michel

Suggestion

I have not tried this but I do have a couple of suggestions.

1)
Export all users archive to Exchange (will demand alot of disk space for existent exchange server) , disable all users for archiving install new/ reconfigure EV server to connect to new domain and new exchange ( EV server needs an new account in the new domain and rights in new exchange ), move/migrate user from old exchange to new exchange server. Enable user on new target.

2)
Export all archives to PST files. Disable all users for archiving install new/ reconfigure EV server to connect to new domain and new exchange ( EV server needs an new account in the new domain and rights in new exchange ), move/migrate user from old exchange to new exchange server. Enable user on new target.

3)
Setup new domain and trust accounts and settings between new and old domain. Add new exchange server as target in EV and new provitioning group linked to new domain, add users to provitioning group. Move users mailboxes from old exchange to new exchange, reenable users mailboxes on new target server. When old domain is to be removed, EV server nees to moved to new domain so Vault sercvice account stil is able to connect to new domain and logon to new exchange after old domain is removed.

Just a though on how it's possible to get around the problem you are facing.
Note, I would make a small lab to test this first. But think all options should work.

*g* @ Kenneth Hansen - That's

*g*

@ Kenneth Hansen - That's just madness, why not just back it all up to 1.44" while you are at it.

@ SUdhir & MichelZ what do you think about this?

So we need to address these issues:

  • Domain Upgrade and Migration (2003 -> 2008) abc.com to xyz.com
  • Exchange Migration (2003 -> 2007)
  • OS Upgrade ( 2003 -> 2008 x64 )

I would suggest something like this:

  • Upgrade Enterprise Vault ( 7 --> 7.5 --> 8 SP2)
  • Install a new server with Windows 2008 x64 and fail-over (Shutdown old server)
  • Create new domain xyz.com and move new.evserver.abc.com into xyz.com
  • Add new exchange servers to xyz.com
  • Add new exchnage.org to new.evserver.xyz.com
  • Migrate as Wanted.

This is just rough ideas, and we can go into more detail at a later stage, I'm a but busy atm.

EV2007 to EV 8.0 Upgrade

We are in the process of planning an upgrade from EV 2007 to EV 8.0. At the same time we want to upgrade the O/S from Windows 2003 x32 to Windows 2008 x64

We have been given the following procedure to following:
Perform an in situ upgrade of EV on the exisitng server
Perform a Distater Recovery (with Data) to a new Windows 2008 x64 server (using the same server name and installation paths)

Presumably EV doesn't mind the O/S changing from 2003 to 2008 or the architecture changing from 32 to 64-bit when performing the Disater Recovery?

If anyone has done this and has some knowledge of any pitfalls in the process I'd be very interested to here your experiences

@Wayne

Importing back into exchange will give SIS advantage when re-enabling ev.

Upgrade to an x64 does not matter, as ev does not use 64bit funct. Will keep running in 32bit mode.
