if it is possible plz test it:

1)run the backup by enabling offline backup for non-VSS VMs

If this option is enabled, NetBackup will perform an offline backup of a virtual
machine.

huthifh's picture

Dear sri vani.

I enabled offline backup. but still same error.

rk1074's picture

in any case ur system will require a reboot as older snapshot are not gettign deleted.

bpfis located under NetBackup client on the Hyper-V server, if you are not looking there...

install_path\NetBackup\logs\bpfis.

this log could give you some better ..

and also see if there is any errors in the event view of the Virtual machine that is failing..

huthifh's picture

I found it and post it.

there is no error in windows or hyper-v.

RamNagalla's picture

below is the error that i found in the bpfis log

22:28:23.761 [6792.8364] <32> bpfis: FTL - snapshot services: snapshot preparation failed: provider-private error.

see the below tech note if that helps

huthifh's picture

1- Allow Offline Backup of VM  is enables in hyper-v policy.

2- the virtual machine is configerd to use VSS.

and the error still appear.

sri vani's picture

plz refer this technote:http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH150413

also plz check below notes:

1)Is virtual machine name correctly specified in the NB policy.?
Check the actual names as listed in the Hyper-V Manager on the Hyper-V server.

2)verify the Volumes on the virtual machine will they  have enough free space for the snapshot?

3)Is the hyperv intergration component is available/installed  properly

To determine the integrated component version, right-click on the following file on the virtual machine and click Properties > Details:
C:\Windows\System32\vmicsvc.exe

This file is the integration service running in the virtual machine.

4)verify in event -application log for vss errors
Run the vssadmin list writer command.
if no writers listed/if any vss errors --work with SA and fiix it accordingly

5)if it is a csvtimedout error increase the clustered shared volume timeout and rerun the backup again

huthifh's picture

Dear sri vani

I will check it.

when i perform backup for VM located in  the active node of the cluster its work fine. but when i perform it in a non active node its give me the error.

sri vani's picture

If it is cluster ,put cluster name (Virtual Name) in NetBackup policy and not actual host names and try running the backup

bpfis: FTL - cannot open C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\online_util\fi_cntl\bpfis.fim.SRVHVDC02_1383935673.1.0
