Error 1935 when installing remote client on W2K8 x64

Created: 18 Nov 2013 | 9 comments

I am getting this error when trying to update NetBackup to 7.1.0.4 on a Windows 2008 Server R2 x64 machine.

ERROR: Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64"

I have looked for solutions, and the main problem seems to be related to the "Windows Modules Installer" being disabled. However on the failing machine, the service is already enabled and set to manual. Is there another workaround for this?

Did you right click on the setup.exe and select "Run as administrator"?

The 7.1.0.4 package is set to only work that way whether you have UAC turned on or not

Just work checking

It's actually ran by a script, but I will give it a go the old fashion way. Will update results. Thanks

Also if you are pushing it out it has to go 32 bit to 32bit, 64 bot to 64 bit

If using the silent install camd file then that may need to be run as adminstrator too - or elevated in some way

Yes this is 64bit to 64bit. The setup.exe was ran as administrator, and when trying the silentinstall.cmd it was ran as administrator as well. Still blows up

Ok - well if the Windows installer service is OK and set to manual there are not many other possibilities - but take a look at this one:

dqbui, did you have any luck?

We have a single Windows 2008 R2 VM that is giving me this problem.   Checked account and folder permissions, services, etc.  Couple dozen other VMs upgraded with no trouble at all but this one giving me fits.

Will Restore -- where there is a Will there is a way

I haven't been able to find a solution for this issue. For the possible solutions that were posted above, I had gone through them and was not able to find anything wrong. I have had a number of VMs upgraded with no trouble as well either, except for this one along with 3-4 others.

There is another possibility here that could cause it : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970652

Did you log a call with Support about this?

As it is a generic Windows error it is worth checking anything associated with the general error - so this may apply too:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH159544

But then it may be a VMware thing as it can affect even VMware tools - and an easy fix for that one:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1037872

I should raise a case but keep digging on the error itself

Hope these help
