We have using SEPM Server 11.0.6300  with AD Integration and client is same version.I want upgrades my all clients with new

SEPM Server. S0, I have created a SEPM Server 12.1.4 MP1 latest but when we manually upgrade my older client 11.0.6300 to latest 12.1.4 MP! it is

showing Error 2502 Called InstallFinalize when no install in progress. Please provide the solution asap.

How are you deploying?

Check the SEP_INST.log and SIS_INST.log files:

Does the install succeed if you run it locally?

 Did you try this on 1 machine or on all the mahcines ?

Try on another machine and check if you get same error message.

For me it looks like Windows Installer issue if you got this error on 1 machine only or may be if it is on all the machine then there might be policy applied on Installer.

You can try step below.

 Edit the folder permissions for C:\Windows\Installer to allow the System user to edit the folder:

1. Edit Windows settings to make sure hidden and system files and folders are shown.
2. Uncheck the selection to Hide protected operating systems and say yes to warning prompt.
3. With your Windows folders displayed, go to the C:\Windows folder.
4. Right-click the Installer folder and select Properties.
5. Click the Security tab.
6. In the Group or user  names list, select the SYSTEM user and click the Edit button.
7. Put a checkbox in the Allow column for Full Control and click OK.
8. Click OK again to save the settings and then upgrade your SEP client .

Please let me know if it works.

I would also suggest try using another USER account and then try upgrading it Admin account preferred.

are you running it from shared drive? copy the package locally and run the install, if it fails, post the sep_inst.log file

Amit, from the log it says

stopProtectedService: Unable to stop SmcService

then returns the error.

can you check from services.msc and see if all symantec services are started ( after rollback)

is it possible to remove the current version and install a fresh copy of 12.1.4?

do you have tamper protection enabled on this client, try disabling it once.

as far as I know, the current install seems to be corrupt, thats what I feel

latest is 12.1.5 would like to try that on  a test machine?

Symntec Endpoint Client's services is running and client is working fine also. No I cannot manually stop the sep services because I have 20000 thousands of user and I want to all clients upgrade 11.0.6300 to latest. After manually upgrade client with success we can deployee to SCCM server. If you have any other things  and you need any types of logs please let me know.

You can check if that works it will narrow  down the issue for you if you are able to install / Upgrade SEP after fixing Installer issue

after following the document, first try 12.1.4 then .5

In the registry, navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\

2. Back up the registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations

After looking at the logs try steps below

- Follow the procedures below and remove the SEP client after stopping these SEP services.

1- Open CMD

2 - Type the command lines:

 taskkill /pid smc.exe /f
 taskkill /pid ccSvcHst.exe /f

3 - Once the SEP client services have stopped, rerun the setup

NOTE: The SC command line did not worked for stop the SEP services. <sc stop SepMasterService>

There is not available pending file rename registery

Have you tried installing with AV only? If that works, you can add the remaining components.

Looks like files for SEP present in Temp folder.  Did you try clean install ?

From what version was this SEP client upgraded ?

I would suggest try using another user account and install it locally.  Try this only on 1 machine check if this works.

Did you reboot machine after doing steps above ?
