Error 36000, Internal Inconsistency, Restoring Dell Image

  • 1.  Error 36000, Internal Inconsistency, Restoring Dell Image

    Posted Aug 25, 2010 11:07 AM
I'm trying to restore my Inspiron 6400 factory image using Dell Restore and have gotten an error at about 75% completion.  It states "internal inconsistency", Abort Error 36000 contact Symantec. I am including the GHOSTERR.TXT file.
The hard drive is partitioned as follows: Dell Utility, Dell Restore, Media Direct, C:.  It looks like the recover program is using Ghost v8.3.  Any help is very much appreciated! I did a validity check on the image and it passed with no errors.

Thanks, I looked into this and I beleive the GHOST.exe files are buried in a Recover .exe file that came with the machine.

    Hi,

From the error log you posted it seems the client machine has prorietary or hidden partition, try deleting all partitions on the target computer with GDisk before restoring the image.

Information on GDisk can be got from the document given below,

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/on-technology.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/289479ba32e9bf408825734e0059c1c6?OpenDocument

What Ghost version would you suggest I need to purchase, since the machine did not come with anny version, just the inbedded restore.

I forgot to add that the machine came with these partitionds already from the factory.  The restore should only be restoring C:

The latest versionof Ghost Solution Suite is 2.5.1 (11.5.1.2266)

Did you change the hard drive mode from 'Native' to 'Legacy' and then try to image the machine ?

No, I have not yet, but I will give it a go.

I check the Bios and there is no option to change hard drive from Native to Legacy.  I did notice that when I go to disk manager, the size of my drive should be 160gb and when I add all the partitions shown it only totals to about 149gb.

I have encountered this several times and the cause was some of the things listed, but also I found that in creating a new image if it was named too similar to any of the others, even thought the span files would still be different - changing the name worked. Also the admin put a cap on the directory where the ghost files are and when it got to close to the cap it would start doing that as well. So I freed up a bunch of space and it worked as well.

I don't believe any partition sizes where changed.  I did do a chkdsk and it found an error, so I ran chkdsk /f.  Does this mean anything to the restore process?
