Created: 27 May 2013 • Updated: 27 May 2013 | 7 comments

Hi All,

My SAP and ORACLE DB backups were continously failing with error 6. Could you people help me to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Nayab

If you look at Troubleshooting/Status Code Guide, you will see that status code 6 is a generic error and troubleshooting must start by looking at the output of the backup script:

* For a UNIX or Linux database extension client (for example, NetBackup for Oracle), this status code can indicate a problem with the script that controls the backup.
Check the progress report on the client for a message such as
Script exited with status code = number
The number varies. The progress log usually names the script.
Check the script for problems. Also, check that the troubleshooting logs created by the database extension.
See the NetBackup guide that came with the database extension for information on the scripts and the troubleshooting logs.

No way to troubleshoot status code 6 without output from script and logs on database client.

Hi Maria,

I have got to see the RMAN logs , Take a look and see if you are able to find what was the exact issue.

Give this back to Oracle dba to investigate.

Correct. As per my first reply:

...... status code 6 is a generic error and troubleshooting must start by looking at the output of the backup script.

Each status 6 must be investigated separately.
