ERROR: client is not validated to use the server

Created: 21 Mar 2007 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 10 comments

I'm using NBU 6.0 - no updates MP0 i guess. in a win2000/2003 environment.

My issue is that when I open one of my clients (Backup, Archive, and Restore) I get the following error "ERROR: client is not validated to use the server" I tried to compare client settings for this server and the other servers that work, and I can't seem to find anything different. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Thank you,
Sebastian

Sounds like host name resolution to me. What is the host name of the client? How many nics does it have? Have you updated the host file on the master/media/client to correctly identify the hosts that will be communicating in this operation? Is this machine just a client or is it also a media server?

Have you added the name of the client to the servers client list? In windows you can view that in the registry under HKLM/software/veritas/netbackup/currentversion/config

More details please.

Oh, and upgrade to MP4 for 6.0.

You're correct, it was a host issue. The host file was changed on the master server, but not on the client. I changed the client host file and it worked.

thank you

This fix didn't work for me:

Server:
Multi-Homed  with 2-NIC's  192.168.10.18 and 192.168.11.18

Client:
Majority Node Set MSCS Exchange Cluster with 3-nodes

Any suggestions?

Thx

I figured it out. Both client and server were trying to find each other out the wrong NIC.  I set the "Preferred NIC" ( or equivalent) on the client and everyone's happy now - I can do Server side push restores or Client side pulls.

Fixed and resolved.
