I recently purchased Symantec Ghost for backing up 5 servers in my company. Installed software in the console server which acts as a Backup for these servers and through network I installed client console software to these 5 servers. But when I started to backup or create Image Task for one server it always fails at "Creating Virtual Partition" Error - Client Timed Out. I added drivers for the NIC cards and tried again still the same error displays.

I really want this issue to sorted out as quickly as possible my company depending on this software for backup.

    Anticipating early response.

First of all, Ghost is not really intended as backup software - its primary functionality is about imaging machines. However, did you check whether you needed to add SATA drivers to WinPE as well as NIC drivers as WinPE V2's support for SATA is quite limited due to its age. Maybe the issue is with the boot environment not being able to see the hard disks.  Have you gone to the WinPE prompt and checked your network using IPCONFIG ? Also, can you see the data on your hard disks from the WinPE command prompt?

How can I enter winPE prompt ? is it by creating new boot disk ?

Just exit Ghost.  Or use CRTL-C during the WinPE boot process.

The drivers added are are either incorrect/not loading or the client is getting a 169.25.x.x IP.Run the task and get to the client.Under WINPE ,you will find the ngctw32 cmd and the normal cmd windows minimized.Do an ipconfig under the normal command window. If nothing comes up ,its a driver issue.Add the correct driver.Let us know the make and model of the client machine.

Thanks for the support team, really appreciate it. I'm currently on a different location for training. I'll surely try the steps that's mentioned when I get back.

I added drivers for the windows server 2008 r2, vista 32bit and vista 64bit. Still the issue is not fixed.

Following is the details about the systems

Client : HP prolink server , with Broadcom Netxtreme II BCM5709 Quad Por, RAID 5 config'd hdd.

Console Server : Dell Optiplex 7010

OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition on both systems.

Since only Vista 32 bit drivers are compatible with the version of WinPE shipped with Ghost 11.5.1.2266, there is nothing to be gained by adding incompatible drivers. Do not overlook the need to add drivers for the SATA/RAID chipset as access to the hard disk is a pre-requisite to being able to image anything. Finally, try disabling all but one of the ethernet ports as something in the back of my mind recalls a past discussion where having multiple NICs could cause issues.
