    I have this error message hammering away in my Altiris logs and support is stumped.  Has anyone else seen this?

    "Failed to create Service Pack And Update list : System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'Altiris.SoftwareManagementSolution.SoftwareDelivery.ManagedDeliveryTaskDeliveryItem' to type 'Altiris.SoftwareManagement.SoftwareDelivery.SoftwareDeliveryItem'.
       at Altiris.SoftwareManagement.SoftwareDelivery.SoftwareDeliveryItem.CreateServicePackAndUpdateList()","SoftwareDeliveryItem::CreateServicePackAndUpdateList","w3wp","135"

    The closest thing I can find related to this is this tech article:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH166849

    That article states that the issue was supposed to have been fixed in 7.1 SP2, which it was not.  Dev says that this has been pushed to SP3/7.5 which we know now is coming at the end of this year, and not this summer.

    So, if you have this issue can you reply here?  I'd like to get more customers to help put pressure on Dev to at least release a point fix, which they've been reluctant to do so far.

    Hello HighTower,

    Seems that you have different problem, because in 7.1 SP2 tasks can be added to dependency without problem.

    Please describe your steps to get such error.

    Regards,
    Dmitri

    The problem is that I don't know what we've done to cause this.  I'm attaching a screenshot that illustrates the problem :)

    If you can check out support case 417-565-361 I've got logs and other things attached.

    Thanks!

    We had this issue once before, and we simply recreated the Managed Software Delivery.  If you recreate the affected Managed Software Delivery and provide some time for clients to receive the new policy, does this resolve the errors in the logs?

    We have more than a dozen MSDs created.  How did you figure out which policy was the broken one?  I'd like to avoid deleting them all :)

    FWIW, Support confirmed that this particular issue will be fixed in 7.5.  Unless I can figure out which is the offending policy I might have these errors for 3-6 months!

    We figured it out.  With Support on the on the phone we stepped through and disabled all of our Managed Software Delivery policies until the errors stopped in the event log.  Going backwards we found that we had two policies that were calling a Task that contained an XCOPY of a file from a network share.  The task works as is and even worked as part of the policy but simply clicking the policy or the task inside of the disabled policy would fill my event log with the errors as shown above.

    I guess it's time to get out of the DS6.x mindset and treat any files/anything presented to a computer as a software resource.
