Error message received while updating Symantec Endpoint Protection

    Hi

I have Symantec Enpoint Protection installed on my PC and I receive an error message when using LiveUpdate Express to update antivirus database. LiveUpdate states: Downloading Antivirus and antispyware definitions (2 of 2), 7% complete... Then comes error claiming: "Downloading failed, error summary...LU1835: The LiveUpdate server failed to respond in a reasonable amount of time. This could happen because you could not connect to the server, the server is now unavailable, or you became disconnected to the server. Try running LiveUpdate again.

    LiveUpdate session is complete. "

I have re-started LiveUpdate several times and booted whole PC but no effect. Windows Vista also claims that antivirus and anto-spyware are outdated.

I used Symantec month on two without any problems but a week ago I experienced SERIOUS BLUE SCREEN ERROR which booted my PC every time Windows desktop came into view. I managed to use my PC only in safe mode. In safe mode Symantec was receiving report that it is malfunctioning and update was impossible. It was also impossible to uninstall Symantec Enpoint Protetion and install another antivirus program. Likewise Windows Update was was turned of and manual update received error in every download attempt. I began to think it must be a virus. I  scanned my hard drive with Symantec (which was outdated) and some online scanner and found nothing suspicous. My friend thought it is the Conficker virus. So I transferred all my import files to my USB storage drive (propably the virus went there also) and formated my hard drive and re-installed Windows Vista using Recovery DVD (which I created when I installed Vista first time).

I have started LiveUpdate several times and booted whole PC but no effect. The reason why I`m being concerned is that I just want to be absolutely sure my PC is working perfectly and without any viruses before I begin  to set it up again.

I`m student of Tampere University of Technology and I have student license to Symantec Antivirus.
    My system:
Operating sytem: Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 1
Antivirus: Symantec Enpoint Protection, version 11.0.4000.2295

    Hi,

The error usually you because of the server timedout while HTTP transfer.

Try to tracert liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com  trough command prompt.
Make sure that the trace gets completed or not.

Secondly regarding the windows updates they are important and you should keep it automatic so that the patch level of the pc is up to the mark. Usually the machine with low patch level is an easy target for the threats.

Also try to update the antivirus using the rapid release definitions, below is the link for the same.

Hmmm I am having the same problem today. It's been fine for months, then today it gets to downloading the updates (it starts to download the new updates and then I get:

    Downloading failed, error summary...
LU1835: The LiveUpdate server failed to respond in a reasonable amount of time. This could happen because you could not connect to the server, the server is now unavailable, or you became disconnected to the server. Try running LiveUpdate again.

    LiveUpdate session is complete.
