Everytime I try to edit as Asset like adding location, account information etc. I get the following error and none of my changes are saved.

An error occurred saving changes. "A resouce with a duplicate filed" winin the 'Identity' data class already exists in the system."

Any idea how to avoid this or what needs to be done to elimate this issue. There are times I need to edit the resource for information that is not pulled from the inventory.

Just a guess but...

The asset you are working on has a duplicate in the database even if it is a Blank or null Value in the System Number field. To test that this is the issue, make your changes to the Asset and then before clicking apply, click the yellow star to the right of the system number field. This should generate a System Number that is unique. Then Click save. If you are error free at this point, then you must implement one of the following solutions. If you have errors, I was wrong.

  • You could either create a CMDB rule to place an Auto-Generated value into the field.
  • Create a default value for system number... this is somewhere under the solution settings for ASSET CONTROL or CMDB. This will generate the system number automatically when you go into edit an asset that doesn't have a system number.
  • Export the data and re-import auto generating the required field that is necessary.
