    Fellow Forum Members;

    I have been using Ghost since before Symantec purchased it. Many version through the ages, always using a DOS boot disk. I have just recently purchased the Ghost Solution Suite v 1.1, which has Ghost ver 8.3 included.

    Using the same boot disk I have used with past version of Ghost for the computers, I created an image of a disk, after building an XP/Office 2003 baseline installation. I have numerous issues getting the image created, all related to Ghost just stopping a random times during the image creation, which caused me to have to reboot and try again. I also noticed that the speed of the image dump was very slow, at around 100 MB per minute (and I noticed that the image was breaking itself into very small files, instead of the normal multiple 2 GB files).

    Once I finally got the image created, and got it to create the proper number of 2 GB files, I tried to put the image on to an exact copy of the machine (I have 60+ of them to put this image on), and continually get error 27074 with the same speed of about 100 MB per minute. I will copy in the ghost error file below.

    If I use ver 6 or 7 of Ghost (my past versions), it immediatly jumps to 300+ MB per minute and works perfectly with the old image that is currently on the machines, and using the exact same DOS boot disk. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    More information: I also have gotten this error: Error Number: (27101)

    I will paste the contents of the error file below. For now, I have abandoned 8.3 and have gone back to version 7, which works perfectly.

    Hello,

    From the scenario you describe it looks like the image is being stored on a mapped network drive. We did have some issues similar to this to work through in 8.0 where mapped drive performance was somtimes slow. Patches were made for 8.0 and later releases, including 1.1/8.3, include these fixes.

    Something that's a bit different between those issues and what you're seeing is that it appears that the image is being corrupted during transfer. This could suggest a device conflict between the disk and network controller however the fact that 7.0 is working suggests otherwise.

    I was wondering if you could please answer a couple of questions about the computer - what kind of hard disks are in this system and is any kind of software RAID being used? What kind of network interface are you using?

    When we saw some of the issues with mapped drive performance under DOS, the characteristics were quite different between PCDOS & MSDOS. Hence something that you could try is using an MSDOS boot disk instead of PCDOS 7.1.

    Thanks & Regards, Robert.
