  • 1.  error report via the Altiris console

    Hi All,

I am trying to find out if there is a way in Altiris that one can pull an error report via the Altiris console of all desktops that will indicate to you whether the reason/s for Altiris deploymnet of software failing via the Altiris agent is because of one of the following reases:

    1) C$ share on the desktop is not working, thus preventing Altiris agent from executing

    2) Altiris agent is faulty and requires an uninstall and reinstall

With each deployment made via Atilris we are constantly faced with feedback statuses of "NOT RUN" or "Failed" and therefore have to duplicate our deployment processes up to 10 times to reduce risk.

Will appreciate help in this regard and hope that there is a consolidated report that can be created in order for us to address issues on the desktop to prevent the dilemma we are faced with.

    Thanks

    Maurice Mushfieldt

Have you actually analysed the failing machines and determined that the C$ share and client issues are always the cause?  From personal experience, the reasons for failed deployments are many and varied, including such basics as insufficient disk space  (You typically need at least to allow at three times the size of the app).

My suspicion is that having a defective client is not going to be reflected in any error reports as its the client that is going to be feeding back error information (or not as the case may be).

RAAD v2 is a tool that can help you diagnose agent issues.  You can download it here:

I think most of your failures will not be related to the Altiris Agent, but will have to do with the OS or application layer -- or more commonly, user error.  You can find that information in v7 by double-clicking the task to find more details.
