  • 1.  Error "Symantec Workflow Server Service is Not Running" After Upgrade to Workflow Solution 8.0

    Posted Mar 22, 2016 04:13 PM

Hi, I just upgraded Symantec Workflow Solution from v7.5 to v8.0 and am getting the following error when I launch the "Log Viewer" from the task tray app.

"Symantec Workflow Server Service is Not Running"

When I check the services on the server, the Symantec Workflow Server service is running.

I tried restarting the service, but the error still persists.

Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to resolve this error.

If the service is stopped, go into Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services, and manually start Symantec Workflow Service

Unsure what would cause it if it is running

sounds as though there may have been an issue during installation, and the service from the old version wasn't removed properly.  perhaps a reinstallation would help.  if you're able, try uninstalling, then reboot for good measure, then see if the service is still hanging around.  if so, blast that away, then try installing again.

or maybe there's a simpler fix; you may want to wait a bit to see if anyone else chimes in.  or contact Support.

Thank you for your quick replies, I resolved the issue by deleting the Symantec Workflow Server service (SWFSVR) using the following command referenced in this article:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH215174.html

    SC Delete SWFSVR

Then I downloaded a fresh copy of the Symantec.Workflow.Setup.exe from that server’s http://servername/Altiris/Console page (Manage > Workflows > Download Workflow Server and Designer). I ran the installer and chose “Upgrade” and now everything is working properly as far as I can tell.
