File Share Encryption

Hi All,

I am again in trouble, Actualy we brought a Lenovo Think center model M92 P desktop. We have installed Windows 7 Ent SP1 on it and when we are trying to encrypt it we are getting error "unable to encrypt Bad perameter -12000". The PGP IS is a managed client with PGP Universal Server 3.2.0.

I also serach some article over internet and found to disable UEFI mode in BIOS. and i dis that i Disable the UEFI mode and enable the Legacy Mode then i Reinstall the OS and rebuild all the partition. but still the error is same "Unable to Encrypt HDD bad perameter -12000" can anyone help me in this regard.

I already read that KB and update the BIOS of that lenovo M92 P model. i also checked it by installing Windows 8 but still i am unable to encrypt the HDD and getting the same error "unable to encrypt disk bad perameter -12000"

can you please help me to understand the line "True UEFI support is being considered for CY13 release"   as i  am unable to get it.

In this context, I believe it means Calendar Year 2013.

Ok....so what about my issue.? what i have to do more to get it resolve. ?

I am having the same issue.  I don't have a UEFI BIOS.  I tried to contact support.  Just purchased and installed and they want $150 for support before they would talk with me. (took me a while to figure this out as the guy couldn't pronunciate very well). I believe It would be cheaper to buy a new laptop from Dell with encryption already installed.

Maybe it is time to get away from backup exec as well!!!

Yes right Rockdoggey, I think the Symantec develop the PGP to making the people fool , as i can see that they does not have the solution for any error related to PGP.

Sorry about to say guys that if you are using the PGP that means your are wasting your time and creating very risky problem for yourself , because the SYmantec does not have any solution related to PGP.

I am facing the Encryption Error Bad Perameter -12000 since 1 month and already register a case 03328631 , but the guys are unable to resolve this issue and asking to format the system again and again.

I have made many follow ups but i am not getting any response on this.

So in all i have to say that do not use the PGP product if you want to make safe your data or device.

Please help me understand the following:

1.Do you get this error on pgpwde command line or PGP Desktop UI?

2.Please check disk status-> pgpwde --disk 0 --status

3.If you are using command line what commands are you using?

4.please attach msinfo32 and a snapshot of your disk maangement.

I would recommend doing a clean wipe of the drive using a utilty such as DBAN or diskpart clean method then attempting to re-encrypt. Make sure that UEFI boot is turned off in your BIOS setup and you have the latest BIOS version from your hardware vendor and that you have an MBR partition table on the boot drive instead of GPT. That may help.
