Hello

I hvae upgraded NBU 7.1 (from 6.5) client on SUSE servers , but found some error message during install :

For the SUSE 10 , the install trace  show some error  :

gunzip  : /usr/openv/java/NB-Java.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/NB-Java.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/JRE.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/JRE.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

But the installation is continue until complete.

For the SUSE 11 sp1.

the install trace show some error :

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/NB-Java.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/NB-Java.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/JRE.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

gunzip : /usr/openv/java/JRE.tar.gz: unexpected end of file.

tinstallation is abort.

I see at the source image /CD_PATH/NBClients/anb/Clients/usr/openv/netbackup/clietn/Linux/Suse2.6.16/NB-Java.tar.gz is 0 byte

and also  /CD_PATH/NBClients/anb/Clients/usr/openv/netbackup/clietn/Linux/Suse2.6.16/JRE.tar.gz is 0 byte.

Can I fix this issue.

Thank you.

You will need to re-download the Client package.

Confirm file size and checksum (as per download page on FileConnect) before you attempt to extract and install.

It sound as a corrupt zip file. Try downloading the installation binary again and retry the operation.

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

It is not unusual to have I/O errors on CDs, these all are physical media that can be scratched or corrupted in some other way.

In all honesty, I have nothing to double-check and compare for you. The last installation DVDs that I have seen was NBU 6.5. I have ony used downloads since NBU 7.0....

*** EDIT ****

I have see similar errors on HP-UX when cd/dvd was mounted with incorrect parameters, but there does not seem to be any special parameters needed for Linux.
Installation Guide just says:
mount device_path  mount_point

Hello

I will check after the download is finish.  If the NB-Java and JRE files of Suse is still 0 byte  (are still 0 byte. How can i fix the problem. I test to copy the NB-Java and JRE files of Redhat folder to Suse folder.

It work fine . Is this the correct method.

Thank you.

I have never experienced problems with the Client image downloaded from FileConnect.
Just check filesizes and checksum and follow instructions to join and extract the files.

Hello

   I downloaded the NB71 client , the JRE.tar.gz , NB-Java.tar.gz of SUse2.6.16 are linked to Redhat folder.

But in the original CD , they are 0 byte size.

Should I re-install the client package with the download file. Can I just re-run the install script.

Thank you.

Seems the link was missing from installation cd.

If you really need the Java GUI on the client (most users don't), then re-run installation.
If rest of installation was successful and bpcd and vnetd processes are running, best to stop them and remove NBU installation. If you try to re-install when rest of installation was successful, it will probably fail when pre-checks are done.

Removal steps from NBU Installation Guide:

1 Log in to the client system as the root user.

2 Stop the NetBackup daemons by entering the following command:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.kill_all

3 For the clients that support the PureDisk agent, remove all PureDisk files
with the following command:
/opt/pdde/pddeuninstall.sh -forceclean

4 For the clients that support the NetBackup-Java Display Console, remove the
console with the appropriate command as follows:   (You can probably skip this step since Java was not installed..... next step as well....)
Linux :   rpm -e SYMCnbjava

5 For the clients that support the NetBackup Java Runtime Environment, remove
the console with the appropriate command as follows:
Linux :   rpm -e SYMCnbjre

6 Remove the NetBackup client by using the appropriate commands as follows:
 Linux :  rpm -e SYMCnbclt

Propably no need to completely remove /usr/openv directory....

Thak you.

Now  the client is stand at 7.1.0.4

I reinstall with the following step

1.Uninstall 7.1.0.4  with NB_update.uninstall

2.re-install with the ./install

It works fine.  Is it OK with this step

If client is working fine, then life is good!

We thought the problem was with base install of NBU 7.1, not with patch install?
Patch install will also include Java.
