This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello All,

We are facing one issue

we have one master server  7.5.0.5 running on a Linux VM. One ops center installed on a Windows server 2008 R2

Currently we are able to open the Netbackup Administrator Console  for the master server from our Opscenter by conecting it via RDP but we are unable to open theNetbackup Java console on the same.
Getting error as "invalid user name or password".
We have added the the user name in the auth.conf file as well.
We are succesfully able to  open the Java console  if we give the name of the Opscenter.

any Help in this regards will be apreciated

Are you able to SSH into the master server with the credentials you are using?

rk1074's picture

Hi Chack22,

Yes I am very Much able to login to the CLI . Its just the Java console is not opening..

chack22's picture

Are you using a local account or ldap? What are you putting in for the username in the java console?

Mark_Solutions's picture

The username you login with would usually be root and the password for the Master Server

Could we see you auth file please in case you have something the wrong way in there

I am login as " domain name\<username>

Auth.conf is also set with the same login  name with ALL permissions.

I am able to login with same credentials for the opscenter Java console (although I donot nede to do that ).

Did you open it using the Run As Administrator?

Take a look at this thread for tips on the auth file:

I tried running as the administrator as well but no luck.

As mentioned in the other thread suggested, I already have all  the necessary auth.conf settings

Mark_Solutions's picture

As a test .. can you login that console using root and the password for the Master?

At least that way it tests the console and communications

I don't know if it matters, but try logging in w/o domain name\username. just use username. that's how we have it cofigured in one of our test beds that's using RHEL and LDAP.

rk1074's picture

I tried logging as the master as well as without the domain name... no luck

All I get is Invalid user name..

Also i have test the bptestbpcd command on both the server and it runs good well..

Any expert advise on this issue will be highly appreciated...

I did ask to see the auth.conf file - I know you said it is OK but this has been the issue for other people so please share it with us just in case.

Here is the auth.conf:

 cat /usr/openv/java/auth.conf
root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC
cb\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user2 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL

Create on this master log folder called bpjava-msvc in /usr/openv/netbackup/logs

and post this log contentes from there just after you tired to logon there...

Mark_Solutions's picture

Thats why i wanted to see it ,,, any users must appear before a line containing an asterix if i remember correctly

edit it to read:

root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user2 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC

Then try again

hello Quebek,

I created the directory and here is the entry from the logs after logging:

hi Mark,

I followed what u suggested :

root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user2 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC

Still the same error

Here is the entry after creating the "missing direcotry" usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpjava-susvc onmaster:

From the conf file:

root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL

cb\user1 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
cb\user2 ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC

I could well be missing the plot here, but from the log:

authenticate failed for user CB\atul.rathi(user not found)

... and I don't see this user in the conf file.

GV89's picture

Try creating a single local user account for accessing the java console on the root.

and make the entry of the same user in bp.conf file.

I guess this should work...
