Hello everyone,

I just installed the latest version of Backup Exec 2010 everything went fine and now i want to add a license key for the VM servers.

my problem starts as soon as i click on tools--> install Options and License Keys on this Media Server,
instead of getting the screen to add a license key, backup exec is taking me to the welcome screen were i have to accept the license agreement, after that i have to select local or remote install and as soon as i select local and i click on next i get an error "Error encountered loading the validator. Check the media and try again."

Your helo is highly appreciated

Thanks
Michalis

This would happen when the

This would happen when the installer detects BE as not installed on the machine. Do you see Backup Exec installed when you go to add/remove programs?

Thanks

Hello, We can see both,

Hello,

We can see both,  Backup Exec 11 and 12. To verify, go to c:\Prog. files\Symantec\Backup Exec folder..
Check the version of beremote.exe for confirmation....If its pointing to 11 OR 12, this means BE was not upgraded to 2010..

Hope this helps...

Its a best practice to have a "Support Contract" with Symantec...

Hey dude, A couple of

Hey dude,

A couple of things:

1. THere are a few patches already out for BEWS 2010. Have you looked at downloading and installing them?

2. If this is for a remote server, have you pushed out the RAWS agent to these servers?

3. Have you looked at completely uninstalling the RAWS agent on the affected servers, and trying to push the RAWS agent out again?>

4. If this is a fresh installation of your media server, are you able to reinstall the application, or at worst to run a repair on it? Something might have been corrupted during the installation...

Laters!

...also check and see if you

...also check and see if you can remove those other versions. With an upgrade, they shouldn't be there, and the process would actually detect previous versions (unless they have been incorrectly removed!).

Thanks a lot for the reply 1.

Thanks a lot for the reply

1. i checked the patches yes but there is help
2. the server is not remote i am doing a local install and the agent yes is installed
3. i didn't try to uninstall the agent, because the agent is working fine
4.i also tried to reinstall several times but with the same result

for sure somewhere there is a corruption but i didn't want uninstall everything because i like 25 jobs plus 10 vm jobs and its a headache to recreate them.
but i guess, i don't have other option i even try to restore the Backup Exec folder from an older backup (with BE 12) and then upgrade to 2010, but again the same thing...

thanks anyway

Hi there, The repair won't

Hi there,

The repair won't affect your installation...all it is going to do is repair any corruption in the application itself.
Try that, and see what happens.
The other option is to trash the installation after making copies of your Data and Catalogs folders.
Matter of interest...is this a new installation, or an upgrade?

I had a similar problem, but

I had a similar problem, but installing the patches fixed the problem where the server wouldn't see the program installed. Ran a repair for good measure, but no corruption was detected. Guessing this is just a fluke with one of the versions of BE2010?
