    Hello-

I am attempting to install SEP SBS 12.1 on a Windows 2008 Standard server. I had version 11.0 installed previously with a few successful client deployments. Now, after installing and uninstalling a few times, I notice that when the first phase of installation completes, and I try to enter the second phase, I get an error"One or more of your license files is missing or corrupt. Copy the .SLF files from Program Files Symantec Symantec Endpoint Protection Management Server Private Key Backup to Program Files Symantec Symantec Endpoint Pro... " and the dialog box is too short for any more text because the error message does not wrap. I got a license file, but I don't know where it goes, and there are no files in the Private Key Backup folder to copy or move even if I knew where to put them. I am using the Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1_Full_EN.exe  download, and there are multiple setup.exe files in the folder structure, I was told to use the msi/exe installer in the SEPM folder, which I tried at least once. I found that uninstalling from Control Panel left files in Program Files->Symantec, so at one point I even tried deleting the leftover Symantec folder. My next attempt will be to try installing from the SEPM ( symantec endpoint protection manager?) folder after deleting all traces of the Symantec folder within Program Files. I only have a half dozen or so Windows 7 workstations and two servers to protect, so I think Imay be okay if I can just get the basic installation to work. I saw that there are instructions of a sort available, but they're dated 2007 so I'm not sure how accurate they'd be.

This link to the above mentioned site seems to say that I can deal with the licensing after I have installed the package simply by navigating to the license file from Endpoint Protection Manager.  It feels like I'm in dependency hell because I can't install without the license being wherever it's supposed to be.

    Hi Marcbachman

I think you want to activate your license 1st rite?

Then log on to your SEPM Console--Go to Admin--there is a activate license option, you can put your slf file there and your license will get activated. No need to go to server private key backup. If you have SEP12.0 SMB license then you have to upgrade your license 1st to put that slf file in SEPM12.1 console. If you have Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1_Full_EN.exe then you can use setup.exe or there is a folder named SEPM,go to that folder and use setup.exe.

    Hello,

    Try these steps..

Once the old version of Symantec Endpoitn Protection 11.0 is uninstalled from the server and before installing the newer version Symantec Endpoitn Protection 12.1 please delete the "\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager" folder and then reboot the server.

    OR

Disabled the Windows Firewall service and ran the Management server configuration wizard

    OR

  • Copy license files from CD or DVD(media) installation SEP 12.1
    • Open CD or DVD(media) \SEPM\ and then copy the license files ".SLF" and the "SAV.xml". Paste these two files into the following folder:
      • <Driver C>:\Program files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\license
  • After that, open the ''Management Server Configuration Wizard'', if the wizard was opened sucessfully the issues was solved.
  • If you have any problems with installation package, copy the files .dat and .info from CD or DVD(media) installation and paste these files into the following folder:
    • <Driver C>:\Program files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\packages
    • P.S.: Execute the upgrade.bat to update the database.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hello-

I can now open the Endpoint Protection Manager logon which gives me fields for username, password, and has the server and port number already filled in. I'm not sure how much good it's going to do,but I'm going to try getting in to it. I'm still getting the "One or more of your license files is missing or corrupt..." error when trying to open the configuration wizard in Tools, oh, well. Sort of wondering who dreamed this installation procedure up. Anyway, if anyone wants to tell me what the default logon values are, it might speed up this otherwise agonizing process.

Sort of wondering who dreamed this installation procedure up. Anyway, if anyone wants to tell me what the default logon values are, it might speed up this otherwise agonizing process. Here's an update, when I try to log in with "admin" and "admin" I get this error" Failed to connect to the server. Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out. If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure that you provided the correct parameters. If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator. Contact your system administrator. Hmmmm....

So, before all this I have uninstalled Endpoint Protection from Control Panel ( Windows server 2008 Standard ) and run the cleanwipe utility to remove all traces of the previous install, etc. I have not configured a server at all, so I don't know how I'm getting a server name for it to contact or a default port number. It also has a "forgot your password" password retrieval which says it sent a temporary password to my email. It's not coming to any of my emails. I remember when I was installing v 11 it took several tries to get it going. I did enable IIS on my server, last time I let the installer create the database because I'm only managing a handful of clients. I'm thinking about starting all over again, maybe trying to install it on my other server.

Default user name would be "admin" and If you are not sure about your password, Go ahaed and reset the same by going to the following path Drive:\program files\symantec\symantec endpoint protection manager\tools and double click on resetpass.bat, A command window would come up and go away in a few seconds, Then login with User name and Password both as "admin" It would ask you for a new password at that time.

This happens because the management server configuration wizard is unable to obtain the license (.slf) files from the License folder located in "Tomcat/etc/License"

--       The Downloaded set up has two .slf files namely Sep.slf and sep_OD.slf
--       Delete the existing files from the “Tomcat/etc/License” folder
--       Copy the Sep.slf and sep_OD.slf from the download set up to “Tomcat/etc/License” folder
--       Run the Management Configuration wizard
--       The wizard runs successfully without any license file errors.
