This issue has been solved. See solution.

hi there,

I'm getting this error for a client:

"WDE Auto Encryption policy was ignored on machine GERENCIA001 as encryption on the type of boot disk (GPT/MBR) is not supported on the current operating system."

The client is running Windows 7 as his fellows do with no problem at all.

Any idea?

Thank you in advance

Hi Roberto,

I am afraid the current version i.e., 10.3.1 supports GPT but only on Windows 8. Please check the release notes for more information.

Here is the link for the release notes:

Hello Roberto,

Please compare the disk type of both machines. Open disk manager (diskmgmt.msc) and you will probably find that encryption is working in the machine with a Basic disk type, and failing (as expected) for Dynamic disk.

I don't know if you guys will be able to the image I uploaded, it is a diskmgmt.msc window though, showing the disk is a basic NTFS formatted....

Thank you guys. It doesn't seem to be the case. The attached pdf shows it is a basic NTFS formatted disk....

Are you running UEFI with and MBR on Windows 7?

Also, check your disk using the Diskpart Utility in the Windows command line.

The UEFI and GPT setup is only supported on the Windows 8 Platform for PGP.  PGP will support GPT for for Windows XP or later for Removable disk only.

Please make sure that the disk is really a GPT and not MBR by using diskpart utility.

You can run the command "diskpart" from the command prompt and then type "list disk" command and post the output in the forum.

OK, I'll let you know the result. Thank you

from C:\Windows\Panther\setupact.log:

and attached is the DISKPART output.

Windows 7 with EFI is not supported with PGP.  Switch your BIOS to Legacy and make sure your hard drive has an MBR partition.

If you want to use EFI with GPT with PGP then you'll have to upgrade to Windows 8 not 8.1

Windows 8.1 will be suported by PGP in the first quarter of next year.
