EV 10 with OWA 2010

Created: 03 Jun 2013 | 6 comments

Hi All,

Need some guidance on allowing EV's file archive explorer to work on Exchange 2010 OWA.

Currently the File archive explorer can be seen and workable on the OWA. Internally it work fine but externally it cannot be resolve thus file explorer

does not work.

Is there any available tech doc that can guide how can this be configured to work?

I think under Desktop policy there is some advanced settings that can be set to allow EV to work externally by defining the external URL.

But is there a need to configure the web.config file on Exchange 2010 OWA? Understand that older version of Exchange will be required to do it. But I'm

not sure about EV 10 with OWA 2010.

How are you publishing OWA on the internet, is it using a Microsoft TMG 2010 server ?

If so, check the technote below how to configure EV with TMG2010:

Try this one about using different urls internally and externally too....

Hi All,

We did not make use of any TMG in the environment. Current the external IP is NAT directly back to the OWA server.

Can the enterprisevault make use of the OWA URL or the enterprisevault web need to be present to external too?

e.g. OWA url:

       EV url:

or can i leverage on using OWA url for the EV by using

If you're not using a firewall/proxy then using the OWA hostname will hit the owa server, not EV.

You'd need something to redirect requests for /enterprisevault to the ev server. TMG can do this easily using the owa hostname

Otherwise, you'd need to use something like

Based on the Tech63250 doc, from OWA, the archive items can be access without much of an issue and EV can ride on the OWA url?

We got no intention of using TMG but we do have firewall which we can make use.

Hi there,

Roughly, you will need to publish EV server off the LAN (dedicated IP and DNS entry), then allow it to pass through the firewall and add the following entry on the web.config files on the CAS servers;

<add key="EnterpriseVault_UseExternalWebAppUrl" value="true"/>

<add key="EnterpriseVault_ExternalWebAppUrl" value="https://external_ev_name/enterprisevault"/>

Nore: You will also need a SSL certificate on the EV server as I'm assuming you will want secure communication.

Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks.

BR, Virgil
