EV capability question

This issue has been solved. See solution.
Would EV be a good fit for a customer who has the following requirement:
Currently running Netapp and EMC in a mostly NFS environment with some FC, also uses Netbackup for backup to tape
- Needs to Archive files (NFS shares ) based on policies to tape (via Netbackup)
- Needs to migrated files between Tiers of storage (FC disks and SATA disks) based on usage
- Needs to delete files based on policy
Thanks

from what you've stated i'd
from what you've stated i'd say yes but it would be helpful to know what types of files you're dealing with. for example, if it's very large media files i wouldn't be as inclined to go with EV file system archiving as i would be if it's all office documents such as doc, xls, pdf, etc.

Customer has mainly
Customer has mainly application data files, including office docuements, and small quantity of media/image files. There is also structured data (SQL and Oracle) which I assume would be excluded.
I was reviewing the Interoperability matrix for FSA, and that seem to suggest that NFS content was not supported with EV.
Thanks
you're absolutely correct
you're absolutely correct about direct NFS not supported. i didnt know if your customer uses NFS mapped to the ESX hosts and then has windows servers on that or whatever other combination that could be possible.

Customer has NFS mounted
Customer has NFS mounted datastores, with Windows VM
typically you'd see File
typically you'd see File System Archiving target file shares and home directories where end-users store their unstructured data. those are typically front-ended by Windows file servers where the FSA agent would be installed. however, if they had CIFS on a NetApp, for example, then no agent is required because EV can integrate directly with it.

Just to add to this, i can't
Just to add to this, i can't say enough about why migrating to tape is a bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad idea, it shouldn't be functionality, i don't know why it's there, its the single worst storage option available
