This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi all,

does anyone know if the stand-alone capacity planning tool for Enterprise Vault File Archiving still exists - i.e point it at a file server before implementation, and it will esitimate the space recovered based on a set of policies?  I dimly recall one from the KVS days but can't find it in 8.0 sp4

Or is it as easy to install FSA, and just run an archive in Report mode?

cheers,

Justin

Hi Justin, There is a File

Hi Justin,

There is a File System Analyzer tool available to Partners and SE's but not generally available to customers.

If you deal with a Symantec SE they could probably hook you up, or maybe contact a Partner.  On the partner side, I could recommend Insentra, they are a good group.

In further answer to Tony,

In further answer to Tony, yes, you can install FSA and run the reports.  They are an excellent tool for determining what files, duplicate files, etc... are on your file servers

Be careful if you plan to

Be careful if you plan to archive files based on last accessed date.  The last time I used the FSA analyzer, it seemed to have modified the accessed date on the files when it gathered the data.
