What happens if you use http://yourEVserver/enterprisevault/search.asp, are the mails showing there?  Is it Outlook Instant Search you're using on the client side?

Outlook 2013 is supported with the Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 Outlook Add-in.  There is a cumulative hotfix which contains the latest client:

Thank you very much for your reply I am able to search via above link but I am unable to search in outlook.

There are 13 mails in one folder ev is showing me only 6 mails only.

Note: My windows search service is disabled.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

Well, I imagine if Windows Search is disabled, then that will be the reason why some/all items aren't appearing?

I've not tested that recently, but, it sounds likely to me.

aasif.momin's picture

Thank you, Ok let me khow how i am sure my Enterprise server indexing is working in outlook?

it is supporting to outlook??

Rob.Wilcox's picture

You know it's working from the EV server point of view because you used the URL which takes you outside of Outlook.

Why the items aren't showing in Outlook Instant Search is *probably* because your windows search service isn't running.

aasif.momin's picture

Thanks you sir for confirmation ev is working by URL,
Is it Enterprise vault indexing is depending on windows search for outlook??

My other system is hosted on Citrix XenDesktop which Windows 7 is installed with google desktop and Windows search service also stared, we are facing same issue like mails not some mail not indexing.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

No, Enterprise Vault Indexing has nothing to do with the indexing on the client side.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

Also remember that when using Outlook Instant Search ONLY the subject, and the first (about) 120 characters of the message body will be searchable.

So ..  what searches are doing in Outlook?  Are you searching from a folder in the mail, or are you going in to Virtual Vault and searching from there?  Need more details really..  exact steps, and so on.

aasif.momin's picture

Thanks you sir, windows search service is started on Citrix XenDesktop installed windows 7

We are facing same issue some mails are not indexing, what to do??

aasif.momin's picture

Thank Very much

what searches are doing in Outlook? >>>>>Email address name which come from

Are you searching from a folder in the mail, >>>> we are searching mails in folder of mailbox.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

I see you've started a new post, so I will continue over there.  If you think that one of the posts above has helped clarify the difference between EV Indexing and end-user workstation indexing, then it would be great to mark it as a solution.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

Oh, and I see that one is locked.

So...

Please explain either with a short video, or screenshots what you're doing, because it's not clear to me.

Thank you for your reply,
We are using Citrix XenDesktop which installed windows 7 and office 2010 we are takeing session with citrix online plunging.

1. Indexing is completed with online exchange mode
2. Index service is running, assume I received 13 mails from EVtest@abcd.com and all mails is archived.
3. When I search evtest it should show me all 13?
4. Yes but it show me only 6 mails
5. Rest mail why it showing me.
Thanking you.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

For the items which have been archived.. do shortcuts exist for them?

Are all these mails in one folder? [if not can you test with a series of manually created mails, all in one folder]

aasif.momin's picture

For the items which have been archived.. do shortcuts exist for them? >>>>It is shortcuts created automatically by policy.

Are all these mails in one folder? Yes it is in one folder

What version of the Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in are you using exactly?

I'm using:

26/03/2013 16:43:16.394[1912][H]: Environment:
26/03/2013 16:43:16.394[1912][H]:     Enterprise Vault Client 10.0.1.1171 (Full functionality enabled)
26/03/2013 16:43:16.394[1912][H]:     Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
26/03/2013 16:43:16.395[1912][H]:     Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7;
26/03/2013 16:43:16.395[1912][H]:     Microsoft Outlook 2010, 32-bit (14.0.0.6025)
26/03/2013 16:43:16.396[1912][H]:         [RPC over HTTP not enabled]
26/03/2013 16:43:16.396[1912][H]:     Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.

In my Inbox I have 14 messages.  12 of them are shortcuts.  2 of them aren't.  I use Outlook Instant Search to search for vaultadmin, and I get back 14 hits.

That's very odd, because, it works fine for me on both versions of Outlook, in online mode.

Is this all via Citrix? Can you test with Outlook installed on a regular machine?

Does your policy force Vault Cache? Is 'Offline Store Required' set to 'yes' or 'no'?

On Outlook 2007 do you have Instant Search installed?

aasif.momin's picture

Thanks,

  1. Is this all via Citrix? Citrix as well as regular machine
  2. Can you test with Outlook installed on a regular machine? Yes tested on regular machine also
  3. Does your policy force Vault Cache? No polciy not Enabled
  4. Is 'Offline Store Required' set to 'yes' or 'no'? i am not found this option
  5. On Outlook 2007 do you have Instant Search installed? Yes instant search installed.

same issue

Rob.Wilcox's picture

Offline Store Required is this option in the desktop policy:

Screen Shot 2013-03-28 at 10.13.10.png

But I don't think it's relevant as you don't have Vault Cache enabled anyway?

I've personally never seen the behaviour you have described.  I'd suggest discussing it with Microsoft and Symantec.

Why both?

Well, the Outlook Add-in does have a role to play in things, but in the end it's Windows Search that should be indexing the shortcuts.  You're asking for recipient information, which is simply part of the shortcut, and that should get indexed by Windows Search like a 'normal emai'.

aasif.momin's picture

Thanks

Do you mean instant search should search all short cut or mails in outlook?

shall we dicuss with Microsoft?

Vault Cache should be enabled in ev server?

We are facing issue in only exchange online mode.

I am not seen "Offilne store required" in server.

Rob.Wilcox's picture

A shortcut in your mailbox is a mail.  Instant Search from Outlook, ie on Windows, should index that.

VC is part of your policy.. as is the screenshot that I sent you of the policy setting on the server.  If you're not the EV Administrator then it won't mean anything to you.  If you are the EV Administrator then my last screenshot should have helped you find it.

Yes I think you should discuss it with Symantec and Microsoft - i said that in the previous update.

aasif.momin's picture

Thanks you so much Rob Wilcox,

I checked again it found in same path it is "Offilne store required"  Yes

Why Enterprise vault not searching all mail?

Searching responsibility in outlook take care by instant search?

can we take a call with Microsoft.

As you said in earlier post

Well, I imagine if Windows Search is disabled, then that will be the reason why some/all items aren't appearing?

Enterprise Vault Indexing has nothing to do with the indexing on the client side.

Please, will you clear me to step for enterprise vault are working properly in outlook or how I can check my outlook search is working properly in outlook??

Ev1.JPG
Rob.Wilcox's picture

To be clear.  Enterprise Vault is not involved in searching all that mail ... it's Outlook.

You can even try uninstalling the Enterprise Vault Outlook Add-in .. those mails + shortcuts (which are also just mails) should be indexed by Windows/Outlook, and should be searchable.
