This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi

I am in the end of a long process of moving archives from one EV server to another. Both running 9.0.4

We have one final archive to move, the journal archive but it fails with the following errors

Copying 616647B1892AA68900F2D21D894929A1 201011230508171~201011231023530000~Z~616647B1892AA68900F2D21D894929A1 - Yes 80040306 An internal failure occurred. I have six entryes with copy errors and the same six with verify errors

See attached error file

I am running a EVSVR on the source system with these settings

Operation Verify

Option ArchiveObjects

Level SavesetValid

Is this the right way to detect corrupt/missing files ?

Yes thats the correct way of dealing missing/corrupt items.

Great :-) The EVSVR just ended all six files are missing

Failed to access file

'F:\EVStorage\Express Vault Store\Express Vault Store Ptn1\2010\10-11\8\006\8006A0D94BFF0E56EE9468DFFA5B7A41~7E~D3989457~00~1.DVSSP

When looking in the folder

F:\EVStorage\Express Vault Store\Express Vault Store Ptn1\2010

There are no folders starting with 10-** so i guess i have to make a restore if possible...

True, you will need to check if the backup has those folders and its contents to restore. If you find them, restore only missing data or restore job might override the current state and you might loose the new data in partition.

Did you manage to restore the missing contents?

Hi Advisor

No sadly not, the customer dont know whitch tape the old backups are on, they have enabled truncating Catalog older than 2 months in Backup Exec and the missing files are from 2010

You may want to do a more thorough evsvr also and see if there is more data missing as it could point to a larger problem

that being said, because you're doing a move archive, if it's just that user you won't need to run a repair in evsvr if you can't find those files, simply deleting the archive will be enough

Hi JesperBerth,

If you don't have a backup for those items which are missing from VaultStore Partition then you may have to run EVSVR in Repair Mode with deletesurplusReferences to delete the orphan entires from the database.

And as its Journal Archive, I believe you ran verify on by selection the Journal archive.

But when you run repair you would not be able to run it on a single archive instead you can run on a single partition where the Journl Archive resides.

Additionally we can also exlude this items from Move Archive by add hexcode in the EVMoveArchiveTask.exe.config file.

I hope this Helps.

Hi A_J

I think we will end with the Repair Mode in EVSVR

Is there a way to identify the sender og receiver?

I am trying with http://evserver/enterprisevault/seach.asp?advanced...

Seaching Journal archive with to and from date like this "23/11/2010"

2010 11 23 10 23 53 is from the SaveSetID

SavesetId: 201011230508171~201011231023530000~Z~616647B1892AA68900F2D21D894929A1, Archived Date: 2010-11-23 10:29:00Z
ArchiveEntryId: 1743154F359E949469C2456831CADB3F11110000vault

But no mails match the time in SaveSetID or the Archived Data

Is this the right way ?

you can search with the savesetID

check the below screenshot

search.png

Just wanted to know why you want to search that item ??

As search will give you result based on indexes.

If the items is not present on the partition then there is no way you will be able to restore it.

I don't think there is a way to find the sender or reciever if you don't have the saveset in the location.

If the user has the shortcut in his outlook, then in the shotcut content will contain this basic information based on you shortcut setting set in the Mailbox policy.

SOLUTION

Hi A_J

Sorry for the late answer, have been away from the customer in a while.

There dosn't seem to be a way to find out who the sender or reciever of these mails where so, the customer has decided to do a repair with evsvr.

We are going to take a note of the date and time for thesse six items, should we do a Discovery later on that includes these dates, we atleast know we could miss some information.

This just shows how importent a good Backup strategy is for EV :-)

Thanks for all of your help

Thanks for the Update Jesper..

And yes it's always recommended to have a good backup strategy..

Once you run EVSVR - with deletesurplusrefrences the refrences for those items will be deleted from Database..

Discovery used EV Indexs to search an item and i believe that items is not present in the Index as well..
