EV8, Single Instance Storage and Backups

This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have just been reading the release notes and upgrade instructions for EV8. The upgrade instructions make reference to EV8 having to have monitoring turned on for the single instance storage (SIS) to work. It seems that it requires that the backups to work for SIS to be consistent. Which makes sense.
Does anyone have an experience with this? Does anything actually happen to SIS if a vault store is not backed up?

The FileWatch process is mandatory for all the vault stores without regards to 'remove safety copies' settings for a vault store.
So partitions for all the vault stores will be scanned by FileWatch for backed up items. This means we
are expecting Backup to be done on all partitions irrespective of 'remove safety copies' setting for that vault store.
The reason we implement the monitoring is so that we can make customers not performing backups aware that items are awaiting backup.
This will have no affect on SIS.

Hi,
yes, Paul is correct. The monitoring is no big hit at all.
We have quite a lot of customers who currently have journalling set to post process 'immediately after archiving' and so if they go and put such a vault store into a vault store group along with a vault store containing mailboxes then obviously there will be SIS between them and so they will have to backup the journal vault store partitions otherwise EV won't post process the items in users mailboxes. So in this situation if it isn't backed up watchfile records will remain and so we want monitoring turned on (which is the default anyhow) so that EV has a chance to warn them of the need to backup.

many thanks. We currently have monitoring on and will obviously continue to do so for EV8.
