EV80SP2 - follow up - changing it.

GertjanA's picture

Hello all,

Following is happening in my own Outlook

I want to change the follow up on an archived mail.
I  open the archived mail, click the 'follow up'icon (the red flag).
A window opens allowing me to change follow up settings
I change enddate, time and flagcolor, click OK
close the mail. Prompt: do you want to save changes? Yes
Then a windows shows saying:
The item is archived and cannot be edited. To save changes, make a copy of the item. Choose yes if you want to store in Inbox, or choose No to store in other folder.
I choose Yes

I then have the shortcut to the archived item, and the new item with changed follow up settings.
I delete the shortcut, and wait for the other item being archived.
sofar as to how it works.

I have a customer that does the exact same thing, but when trying to save the changed item he gets a message saying:
Changes have not been saved, because you do not have the appropriate permissions to change some or all items in the folder.

While looking at his screen, I noticed that the top-bar of the opened archived mail states RE:Follow up - Message (RTF) (read-only)  at the top line of the mail.
I do not have that. Mine states RE:Follow up - Message (RTF)

That might be the problem, but what causes this/ resolves this.

I thing to note is that this user has an Vault Cache, and I don't. User was connected to the network when trying.

The user has the correct permissions to his archive, and as far as I can check, has the correct permissions within Exchange.

Anyone?

Thanks

Gertjan

I am guessing this is more to

I am guessing this is more to do with the original message as opposed to the fact it is archived. I havn't tested on 8sp2 but I have offline vault working on my 7.5sp6 lab and I don't get the 'read only' sign so not offline vault.. Will test on ev8 later and let you know just to be sure. My messages are also in html not rtf but will let you know how ev8 goes, in the meantime I would have a look at the original items before archived and then see if you can replicate on a newly archived item.

Additional comment

Hi GCox,

My users messages are also html.
We used an item that was archived last week, and one from januari 2009. Both showed the problem.

My own archived items are allowing me the operation.

I am investigating if he perhaps received a new mailbox (no 2nd archive though), a new windows-profile, or anything else being obvious.

I'm a little lost. I am thinking of permissions on the mailbox, as the storing of the changed item is supposed to happen in the inbox, but that does sound strange.

Thanks for investigating.

GJ

Thank you, Gertjan
