ev80sp2 Vault Store Partition not showing as Shared

Hello,

A bit of a strange problem.
On the vaultservers, we have the Vault store partitions in a seperate folder:
F:\
F:\EVStorage\
F:\EVStorage\mbx01x2 Ptn1
F:\EVStorage\mbx01x2 Ptn2
F:\EVStorage\mbx01x2 Ptn3

The Ptn1 and Ptn2 are showing as 'shared folders'  in Windows Explorer, where the sharename is something like EVPartition01ca33a6d5a72850$
Ptn3 is not showing as shared.

When I look at properties of the partitions in EV Console, I see the path for Ptn1 and Ptn2 as the local path (ie f:\evstorage\mbx01x2 Ptn2), but the path for the Ptn3 is
\\servername\F$\EVStorage\VaultStore\MBX01x3 Ptn3

Is that as expected? Does the partition need to be shared, and if so, how?

Thanks,

Do you notice any differences

Do you notice any differences in the PartitionEntry Table for those Vault Stores?

EV should create the shares on start of the Storage Service when they are NTFS volumes.
Eventlog?

none

Hello Michael,

No differences in the file.

I'll test as follow tomorrow hopefully:
I'll create a new parttion on the server using the VAC, and open that one. I'll see what happens

I then will try with :
as VSA, create partitonfolder, then use VAC to use folder.

Might have something to do with how I did it the first time. It is working fine.

Solution

I found out what caused this problem.

We have several mailbox archiving servers.
If you connect to server1, use the VAC to create a new partition on server2, you get to browse to where to create the folder to be used (on server2).
When you click next, you'll see \\server2\f$\storage\partition
When finished, you can open the partition, and archiving will work.
The folder, when examined in Windows Explorer, will not show is ' shared'

When you perform the operation locally, so open the VAC on server2, create a new partition on server2, the partition will show as f:\storage\partition
The folder used will show as ' shared'  in windows explorer, with sharename as given by EV.

Strange? As intended? Confusing definitely.
