I'm looking at employing GSS in a small department. None of us have domain admin rights, and getting corporate IT to grant such rights to one of us or a ghost service would be a challenge.

What I'm looking to do is to take an image from one computer Test-1 and put it onto both Test-1 and Test-2, such that each computer has its name and is still connected to AD.

If I take an image off Test-1 and put it back onto Test-1, then there are no problems.

If I take an image off Test-1, change the default configurations so that ghost is not trying to add them to the domain, and the clone the image back to both machines then Test-1 works great.  Test-2 has the correct name, but I can't log in (domain controller unreachable if on the domain, and the local admin account seems to not work either).

Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

    Hi,

1.Are you trying to use two computers with the same name in your network?
2.How you are doing this are you using the console or the boot CD.

I also tried taking the image from Test-1 and just applying it to Test-2, and was unable to login (domain controller unreachable). Hopefully that's a clue as to what's going on.

Thanks again for any and all help and guidance.

    1. No. Two different names in the network.
    2. Console.

More information in the next comment.

The issue may be with the SID (Security Identifier). You may want to re-clone that PC with the image, and check the option "Use Ghostwalker to perform SID change" checkbox. This sounds like a duplicate SID issue

    Thank you,

If it is a single machine you can also run the ghost walker on the command line of that machine manually

Please  check this document link to  run the ghost walker manually.

Hope this will fix your issue.

The reason it works from machine one to machine one is this is a back up and a restore and the domain is cool with that.   But from machine one to 2 machines is a deployment and the domain controller can't and won't allow this to happen.

If you are going to be delpoying an image it needs to be an image that is a member of a work group first.   In the ghost console there is an option to remove system from the domain first when doing a new image create.

Then on your restore you can choost like Ranall noted the check box to change the SID.  You can also use the console to use a configuration task to rename them both and join them to the domain.

    Hope that helps.
    Cheers.
