In this topic https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-1105002-xp-sp3 Kurt G. say that there is workaround to run Symantec without the "event notification service"

And that I should contact support to get the workaround.

I opened a case on the support (ID 412935516) but the support personal told me that it is impassable and I have to enable the  "event notification service" to use SEP, I Do not want to enable the  "event notification service" because it’s a PC connected to a TV screen in the lobby showing videos so getting notification popups is unaccepted

    I use SEP 11 MR6 managed

    Thank you

Yu could definitely stop the system event notification serviceor even disable it. Symantec Endpoint  protection would still work , without any issues.

However, you could not stop/disable the Symantec event manager  service, as the  Symantwec endpoint protection service is dependent on this...

Hwever, you could also Disable Various Notifications from SEPM, or  SEP client.

    Possible workaround-

. If no system event notification service exists, remove dependency for symantec management client service from registry.
    - take a registry backup.
    - navigate to  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SmcService and delete the Value "DependOnService.
    - close registry.
    - reboot is required at this time.
