EVPM policy not appying to all client consistently, help!
Hello,
We are using EVPM to roll out vault to our user base. We're in the process of a major rollout and are now seeing behaviour on client machines where the retention policies aren't showing prperly For example, the default provisioning policy for the whole exchange organization is set to 60 days. When I apply an EVPM policy to the users, their client show that all of the folders are using hte 60 day retention even though the EVPM policy shows otherwise. This was working fine for the last few months, and is now activng sporadic.
Here is my EVPM ini file I'm using:

Hi Aaron, For the mailboxes
Hi Aaron,
For the mailboxes you checked, did you see those mailboxes show as being processed during the running of EVPM? I'd first check and verify that the mailboxes are included in the LDAP query parameters.
Second, are the mailboxes in question on the Exchange server you specified when running EVPM?
Yes to both questions. What's
Yes to both questions.
What's confusing is that on a lot of the clients, the enterprise vault settings were correct, and now are not. It's almost like the client is just not picking up the info from the server. However, things place in the folders seem to get the right retention (I used archive explorer to verify).
We're using 8.0SP2 just as an FYI.
Here's an even more confusing
Here's an even more confusing thing.
If I open the user's mailbox who is having problems (many actually) on my computer, the properties all look and work fine.
Have you tried running
Have you tried running resetevclient on a client that shows the wrong information.
I assume a client trace shows the wrong information, does it ?
If you feel this is a solution please mark it as such.

I have ran resetevclient and the problem persisted until I redid the user profile. I haven't tried a client trace yet.

Okay, now I'm a bit confused...
You're saying that when you look in the EV properties tab on the Outlook client, the policies are showing as they should?
How were you validating the EVPM settings prior to doing that?
*edit*
Ohhh, I see what you're saying. It's different by client!
I'll bet you anything that something's been cached on the users' computers. Are they running Outlook in Cache mode? If so, I'd imagine that their hidden messages aren't synching.
I'm stabbing in the dark a bit here, but are forms included in the synch? If worse comes to worse, I would run the \program files\enterprise vault\evclient\ResetEVClient.exe and then see what shows up in their EV tab properties.
Yes, all of the clients are
Yes, all of the clients are running in cache mode.
I took one of the affected clients out of cache mode and the properties were normal. Back into cache mode and the properties revert.
On my cilent, I had the same issue, and I deleted my profile, and things are normal.
Does this mean I need to clear everyone's profile? (that would be a total mess).
Thanks!
No, fortunately you don't
No, fortunately you don't have to clear any profiles. It's the hidden messages on the Exchange server that matters - not the versions that the users see at their cache'd client.
If you really need to check their actual settings, it would appear the best way would be to log into user profiles via a non-cached Outlook client. Doing that on the EV Server itself while logged in as the VSA would do it. Checking it at the clients themselves will simply not give you accurate results.
So is this is known issue
So is this is known issue with the client's settings not being accurate to check?
Without it being accurate though, if Ia person drops an item into an Archive folder and clicks the Store in Vault button, it will default to 60 days. I'd like it to be accurate of course :)
Hmm, sounds like a bug. So
Hmm, sounds like a bug. So you're thinking hidden messages are causing this issue then? I'm actually not even sure what you're referring to by hidden messages.
Thanks for the responses, they've been very helpful!
The issue re-occured on my
The issue re-occured on my mailbox over the weekend. If I take outlook out of cache mode everything is fine.
So is there any way to resolve this issue?
Thanks!
run C:\Program
run C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ScanOST.exe (if using Outlook 2007) or C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\ScanOST.exe
its most likely that the hidden message isn't being synchronized to the OST correctly, not an EV issue but an MS/Outlook issue
Hi, I'm reading this and
Hi,
I'm reading this and can't help think this must be something environmental causing otherwise we would of heard of more instances of this.
One thought, have you added exclusions for the OST file or location and see if A/V is causing this issue.
What happens if you setup a test machine with your profile, but with the minimum installed, outlook/EV client, no av, no gpo's (or minimal).
Just a thought.....
If you feel this is a solution please mark it as such.

We have never excluded SEP
We have never excluded SEP from scanning the OST. I'll try doing that and see what happens.
Here's an update to even
Here's an update to even wierder behaviour:
If I right-click on the mailbox root (say Mailbox - Aaron Morris) in outlook and click properties > enterprise vault properties, and then click Cancel and right-click on one of my archive folders and click Properties, Enterprise Vault Properties, all of the settings show correct.
Exit outlook and re-open and they all are wrong again until you redo the above settings.
Very very strange.
Bottom line is that the EV client is not getting the data correctly until I look at the root mailbox properties.
Sorry if this a repeat but
Sorry if this a repeat but have you rebuilt the OL cache?

Yup, deleted the OST, tried
Yup, deleted the OST, tried new profile, tried the scanOST. This is a pretty good one :)
