    OS:
    Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition

    Endpoint:
    v11.0.4014 (MR4-MP1)

    Problem:
This is a fresh install of Endpoint and ever since I installed it, the server has become pretty slow.
It's been this way for about two days even after multiple restarts.
Since this problem started only after I installed Endpoint, I assume it is Endpoint related.

Looking at the box I see that the hard drive LED is constantly illuminated.

So, I checked the performance off the disk:
    % Disk Time: 100 - 1000 (sometimes higher)
    % Idle Time: 0
    Avg. Disk Queue Length: 1 - 2

I tried stopping all Symantec services (to pinpoint) via the services MMC and it still is high.
Endpoint Manager log, under the Admin-->Servers tab, commonly shows "Inbox log file deletion failed".

Any guesses as to what the problem could be?
Any other logs that might provide more information?

Can you check the taskmanager and see what process running? we might get a clue on what program/process is accessing the disk.

I'd rather used Process Explorer from Sysinternals.

I was using Process Exp (my first troubleshooting tool) but I have a Quad Core 3 GHz processor in the server and the usage is actually pretty low.

Basicly what I got from Process Exp:
    SemSvc: 0-20%
    dbsrv9: 0-20%

    Nothing constant.
Overall CPU usage is pretty low.

The disk just keeps grinding away though!

I am afraid if it keeps up like this for a couple of months the thing will fail.

Hey!! you should run disk utilities sir, to know the health of the hd.. this could be a serious issue.

    In ProcExp go
    View->Select Columns->Process Performance tab->Check "I/O Delta Reads", "I/O Delta Writes", "I/O Delta Other", Ok
That will show you which of processes uses Input/Output operations most (or to put simply uses your HDD)

Thanks Lissome, I added those columns.

Well, I thought the I/O's would be higher but the top ones are all Symantec Processes:

    dbsrv9
    SemSvc
    LuAll

Weird thing is, none of them are reporting constant disk activity like my performance MMC or HDD LED says.

SemSvc and the LiveUpdate process were the highest activity over all.

I'm wondering if this could be a bug for Server 2003 x64?

    Hello everybody,

    I have the same problem.
In many of the computers in my office I have installed SEP there are some days when the hard disk stops working. This happens since I installed sep. it's like doing an analysis of the system, but without being seen.
Computers are so busy that I have no way to see the running processes.

    Did you help?

    Thanks to all
