Exchange 2007 Failed Backups - Out of Memory Errors
Hi,
I'm having problems getting reliable backups of our Exchange Server. I'm running BE12 on Windows Server 2003 SP2. I'm backing up Exchange 2007 running on Server 2008 x64 SP2 with 8GB RAM. I'm using the Exchange Agent for the backup.
The memory problem is on the Exchange server. After a failed backup I can see that the memory usage peaked at near 10GB so it's maxing the RAM and using the pagefile. I can also see store.exe sitting at near 6GB usage. Restarting the Information Store brings store.exe to < 1GB and backups run OK again for a couple of days as the memory usage creeps up.
I know Exch2K7 is designed to use all RAM available but to reallocate when necessary but it looks like that isn't working correctly. I also know this may not be the best forum as this may be an MS issue, however, is anyone here running a simliar configuration and seeing similar issues?
Thanks,
Andy.

I have the same problem using Windows 2003 R2 SP2 with 4 GBs RAM. Exchange is backed up remotely with BE12. OS, Exchange and BE are fully patched. I have one or two failed backups every week and can't find a solution. We only have 100 useres so 4 GBs should be enough for us.
BackUp Exec out of memory messages when backing up Exchange 07
I too am having this problem. I have about 290 mailboxes. When I was on Exchange 03 Standard with one mailbox store (same OS, Windows 2003 Standard R2), I did not have this issue. Once we moved to Exchange 07 and started to use all of the available stores (5), this started happening. I am on BackUp Exec. 12. For me, restarting my "dedicated" backup server that is connected to my Quantum Tape Drive seems to "fix" it without a reboot of the Exchange Server. It will work for a varying number of days (sometimes 2 and sometimes 6) before I get the out of memory error again. I too have all software patched.
This remote backup is just part of the backup that I do each evening. In fact, there are other things going on the tape fromanother server AFTER the mailboxes so the memory is running out but JUST for the mailboxes. The job continues and backs up my documents on another server. So it seems I am out of memory just for the rest of the mailbox backup....It typically backs up 2 or 3 of the 5 stores when it fails but skips the last 2 or 3 and moves on to the other backup items.
This is confusing because rebooting the tape server only (and not the Exchange Server) fixes it, even though it would seems that the job runs out of memory just for the mailboxes....
It is indeed worrisome that I do not get all of the backups done.....
