Hello all,

We are backing up our store and our individual mailboxes by using BE 12.5 to disk.
The file backups preform verry wel, but our exchange backup is not it is terrible we are getting speeds up to 60mb/min.
So my time widow for backups is getting messed up.
When i am not doing a GRT its realy fast but when i use GRT( because we want to do mailbox backup as wel ) it goes realy slow as i said befor.
I have been looking on the internet for a solution and i tried almost everything now.
So i am getting a litlle dessperade right now, can any body please help me out?

1st thing to check make sure

1st thing to check make sure you are not backup individual mailboxes using the brick level backup .
You can check that by going to the backup job properties and make sure Exchange mailboxes are not selected .The only thing which need to be selected is the information store . The backup job runs extremly slow when you run a brick level backup  as it uses MAPI.
Just disable the legacy support by going to Tools--Option --Ms Exhcange -- Uncheck the legacy support option here
Using the GRt technology you just need to backup Information store which will all you to restore individual mailboxes .
Hope this helps

Thanks for the answer i am

Thanks for the answer i am trying it right now, i had brick level backup indeed enabled.
So in my selection i only selected the First storage group and not the mailboxes and the Public Folder Database.
And in the options i unchecked the legacy support option, and left the GRT option on.
I hope this works:)

Yup you are correct you just

Yup you are correct you just need to backup your storage groups and make sure the GRT is enabled. I beleive this was the root cause for the backup to run slow

Well i did what you told me

Well i did what you told me now i get the following error,

V-79-57344-795 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot provider error (0xE000031B): Microsoft Exchange Server 2003/2007 supports snapshot technology for entire storage groups only. Snapshots of individual

databases are not supported. Update the backup job and try again.

Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Looking for a solution now.

If a snapshot backup of the

  • If a snapshot backup of the exchange database is intended, select the entire storage group for backup. Or
  • In case of Exchange 2003, back up the Exchange server in a separate job without using Advanced Open File Option (AOFO).
  • If it is Exchange 2007 then Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) doesn't matter as it will always be a snapshot backup. In exchange 2007 the entire storage group has to be backed up.

Have you tried to disable it

Have you tried to disable it completely during a GRT backup, or can you disable "on access scanning" in Kaspersky for Exchange ?
Just for testing, to see if it makes a difference.
