You did not specify which

You did not specify which version of Exchange that you are trying to back up.  Make sure that you have met all the requirements stated in the SCL below, e.g. to backup Exchange 2010 SP1 you need to be on BE 2010 R2 or R3 and you need a Windows 2008 SP2 or Windows 2008 R2 x64 media server with the Exchange 2010 Management tools installed on the server.

BE 2010|2010 R2|2010 R3 Software (SCL)

fouzia: installing Backup

fouzia: installing Backup Exec on an application server doesn't allow you to backup that application (like SQL, Active Directory, Exchange etc.). All you would see are local drives and files...not the actually application in a selection list.

TO do this you need to license that agent. So you need the Exchange agent in order to see the Information Store in a selection list and to back it up using GRT and while the application is online. This is the best, preferred, and recommended way to backup ANY application.

If you don't want to buy an agent, then you need to hack BE's Active File Exclusion to disable it, write a script to stop Exchange and dismount the Information Store, and THEN back it up. Once done, run another script to remount the Information Store and start up the Exchange services. You don't get any GRT backups/restores, you have downtime for your users and if you want to restore, you need to take your production Exchange offline to do so.

Buy the agent...anybody will recommend this!

Then buy the Exchange agent,

Then buy the Exchange agent, license the media server, and push-install the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) to the Exchange server...all as per my first post.

Thanks!
