Exchange attachment are not restored

Abdallah Alsaleh's picture
Hi;
I created a job to backup exchange 2003 and enabled restoring single emails from information store.
The backup job was run successfully.

When i try to restore a single email, the job finishes successfully but the attachments are not restored. sometimes the attachments are restored but corrupted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Abdallah,

It sounds like you are experiencing the issue found in technote 287227 ("Mailboxes or Mail Messages Restored from an Exchange Information Store (IS) backup using the Backup Exec 11d Granular Restore Technology (GRT) feature may not be restored as expected. Items Restored from GRT backup may not contain usable attachments, embedded items, or the text body of the mail message may be missing" - http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/287227.htm).  If so, try running "Tools | LiveUpdate" to download and install the latest hotfixes.  Please remember - once you have upgraded the media server, you will also need to update all remote servers as well (all servers will most likely need to be rebooted after the upgrade).

Please let me know if the above fixes the problem.

Regards,

Christiane

Hi Christiane;
It seems the problem has not been solved yet.
I have run the live update and rebooted the media server then i checked the installed update from
help menu--> About symantec Backup Exec for Windows server-->Installed Updates, i found the following hot fixes installed: Hotfixes 11,13,15,16,20,19,21.
I also uninstalled the remote agent from exchange server and rebooted the machine then pushed the agent from the media server once again.
After that i ran the Exchange information Store backup Job successfully then i tried to restore an email that has an attachment. the restore job ran successfully but the attachment was corrupted. the original attachment is a 4 KB size photo but the restored one is only 298 Byte size photo.
i tried to restore other attachments but still have the same issue.

Abdallah,

Since you installed Hotfixes 11,13,15,16,20,19,21, you must be running Backup Exec for Windows Servers v 11d rev 6235.  I should have been more specific in my last response, and asked you the rev first.  You really need to be at rev 7170 with at least hotfix 4.  You can download this rev from the below:

BEWS 11.0.7170 32bit

OR

BEWS 11.0.7170 64 bit

Again, once you have installed the above on the media server, run LiveUpdate and then update all remote servers (you do not need to uninstall and reinstall remote agent - just install on top).

Let me know if that fixed the restore issue.

Christiane

So once i upgraded to rev 7170, i will need to reinstall all of my remote agents?  Will i also need to reinstall the AOFO agent too?

Hi Christiane;
I installed Backup Exec 11.0.7170 32bit then I ran the Live Update and installed Hotfixes 3, 5 and 4.
 Problem is solved now.
Many thanks for your support.

Naver,

Yes, when upgrading to a different rev or version, all remote agents/options will also need to be upgraded.

Christiane
