This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

So I'm having the issue that seems to be well-documented here (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH125176) in which the Exchange backup fails due to some VSS problem.  I checked out the Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930800) which suggests dismounting the store or rebooting every time this happens.

As I troll the forums, it looks like most people have this error every once in a while, and so a reboot or dismount/mount of the database is no big deal.  However, I have this error EVERY time Exchange backups run.  So that would mean setting up some kind of script to unmount/dismount the databases (or reboot the server) every night.

Does anybody have any other workarounds or solutions to recommend?  I am all ears and would really appreciate it!

Thanks,

Brian

VSS writer failure is a microsoft issue more so than a B.E. issue. Though Backup Exec uses Microsoft writers for the snap when backing up databases, the writers themselves are managed and troubleshot by/with Windows/Microsoft

I hope this posting was helpful
