Found this in a technical document, it may help a lot of people

In order for Backup Exec 11.0 GRT technology to correctly display the mailbox in the restore selections following a GRT enabled backup of the Exchange IS, the users name in the mail attribute (initial SMTP address) and the final cn= in the LegacyExchangeDN attribute must be the same.

Our original e-mail environment was upgraded to Exchange from Lotus around 6 years ago, and we have some users that actually have LegacyExchangeDN's different from their SMTP address (mine included), and have been able to see all my mailboxes. I realize this isn't much help, but it's very strange.
