Exchange Server Backup status....

Created: 08 May 2013 | 2 comments

I have a question regarding backing up my Exchange server.

I am currently attempting to backup my Exchange server to disk - I have the space.  However, I notice that my "byte count" has stayed on the same number for hours.  Yet the "Elapsed Time" is ticking away while the "Job Status" indicates that it is running.

Is there a method for determining when I should cancel a job?  The job has been running for 18 hours.  I know it is depended on the size that the job is attempting to backup.  However, I have no indication if the job is progressing or if it just hanged?

I have had similar encounters with other database type backups.

Please advise,

Hi,

If you open up the job log, does it show you the file it is busy with, and if so, is it moving? If not, your job has stalled, especially if it took a lot less time to backup before.

Cancel the job and rerun it.

Thanks!

Does the current status anytime fluctuate to "Updating Catalogs"? If it is going to Updating Catalogs then it is collecting Metadata for GRT restore.

Thanks,
