Hello erudite EV associates
I have a customer who has recently implemented EV for Mailbox Archiving only .They say that since it has been installed the Exchange Transaction Logs ,Exchange 2003 , have increased in size dramtically
My question is does Mailbox Archiving effect Exchange Transaction Logs ?I can't see how ...as EV makes a MAPI connection to Exchange and pulls mail through its own mechanisms..it doesnt actually send/recieve email .How would this effect Exchange Transaction logs ?
If Im wrong can someone explain what is the cause of this increase in Transaction log size and how to address it :)

Hi Bruce,
this question was discussed a little while back, I have added the link below to the forum
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/exchange-transaction-logs-0
I have had several cases where the transaction logs have exploded which was due to the restoreshortcutbody reg key being left on, so everytime an archive run went it accessed or the previously archived items as well. This reg key is mentioned in the following tech note
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/282855.htm
If you find that the amount of transaction logs are too high, as this appears to be a new environment for mailbox archiving you may want to make the archiving policy less aggressive and then amend the policy, or change the transaction logging method at your own peril :)
hope that helps
thanks

Hi Blue Nose
Yes this was very helpful and useful :)
The customer has still configured the restoreshortcutbody registry key
They have removed it and this should resolve the issue
Also I learnt something new ,Mailbox archiving does effect the Transaction logs size and growth
A worthwhile day ...solved an issue and learnt something new about EV :)
